POSITION SUMMARY:
The Customer Service Substitute provides support in the absence of regular staff by interacting directly with customers and performing a variety of tasks, primarily related to the circulation of materials. This position is responsible for working at multiple locations throughout the Library system for prearranged shifts as well as last-minute shifts. The hours worked will vary from 0 to 29 hours per week.
ESSENTIALJOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Circulates materials to customers, including checking materials in and out, processing holds, registering customers, and collecting fees.
- Shelves returned materials.
- Searches for requested materials.
- Assists customers with various technologies.
- Assists customers with resumes, job searches, internet use and basic computer usage.
- Performs readers’ advisory and reference services.
- Refers customers to location leadership as appropriate.
- Supports and advances the Library’s mission of connecting people with the world of ideas and information.
- Embraces and embodies the Library’s core beliefs, strategic priorities, and pillars of excellence.

- Ability to work on an emergency or as‑needed basis.
- Ability to work independently and with coworkers in a wide variety of situations with minimal supervision.
- Ability to use all technology applicable to the essential functions of the job and commonly used by the Library.
- Lifting objects up to 50 pounds and carrying them short distances [50 feet or less] is required. Pushing carts of library materials up to 150 pounds is required.
- Working irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, is required.
- Education:
High School diploma or equivalent is required. - Certifications or licensure:

None. - Years of experience supervising:
None. - Must agree to work at a minimum of five library branches.
- Must work a minimum of 8 hours per month after introductory training requirements have been met.
