VP, Model Validation and Validation COE – Synchrony

Role Summary / Purpose

The VP, Fraud/GEN AI Validation COE is responsible for performing model validation for all fraud models, ensuring alignment with MRM policies, standards, procedures, and regulatory requirements (SR 11‑7). The role establishes and maintains a Validation Center of Excellence, supports the model governance team in designing quality‑assurance processes, leads execution across validations, serves as an innovation hub, provides standardized training and staff development, and enhances model risk practice to improve stakeholder experience.

Responsibilities
  • Establish a Validation Center of Excellence:
    Lead the creation and implementation of a governance framework for Generative AI models, including standards, procedures, documentation templates, and processes.
  • Quality Assurance & Capacity Planning:
    Institute a QA process, challenge status‑quo, identify gaps, provide best‑practice guidance, and support capacity planning.
  • Strategy & Innovation:
    Serve as an incubation center, exploring, testing, and implementing innovative approaches using Generative AI to accelerate and improve model‑validation processes.
  • Professional Practice:
    Support the Model Governance team to enhance 1

    LOD model owner experience and foster value‑focused validation.
  • Lead all fraud model risk management:
    Drive project timelines and completion with minimal supervision.
  • Supervise junior reviewers on validation projects.
  • Handle escalation, root‑cause analysis, risk acceptance, and remediation independently.
  • Support regulatory examinations and internal audits of the modeling process and selected model samples.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications / Requirements
  • 5+ years’ experience in acquisition/transaction fraud model development or model validation in financial services; CI/CD framework experience preferred.
  • Experience in generative AI model validation, framework development, or complex use‑case development.
  • Proven ability to automate validation processes (e.g., AutoML, generative AI) and reduce cycle times, including designing and building supporting infrastructure.
  • Master’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, or a related quantitative field; or 9+ years of equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years of hands‑on experience with data‑science and statistical tools such as Python, Spark, Data Lake, AWS Sage Maker, H2O, and SAS.
  • 4+ years of machine‑learning experience, handling large datasets and trend analysis.
  • 4+ years applying U.S. regulatory requirements for Model Risk Management.
  • Ability and flexibility to travel for business as required.
Desired Characteristics
  • Strong knowledge of Model Risk Management regulatory requirements with a track সেট compliance delivery.
  • People and project management experience, executing actionable plans and meeting deadline‑driven objectives.
  • Familiarity with credit‑card and consumer‑finance products and business models.
  • Excellent written and emocational communication and presentation skills.
Compensation

Salary range: $ – $ annually, with an annual bonus based on individual and company performance. Salaries are adjusted for market conditions in CA, NY Metro, and Seattle.

Eligibility Requirements
  • 18 years or older.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Willingness to undergo drug testing, background investigation qq and fingerprinting.
  • Must satisfy Section 19 of the Federal Deposit Insurance Act.
