The Strategic Sourcing Manager (SSM) is responsible for developing and executing sourcing strategies, managing vendor relationships, and optimizing the lifecycle performance of assigned waste disposal outlets and service providers. This role supports Sales, Operations, Logistics, Finance, and Environmental Services by coordinating waste profiling, lab pack services, compliance requirements, securing competitive pricing, evaluating disposal options, and ensuring vendor performance aligns with company objectives.
The SSM plays a critical role in driving profitability through cost analysis, vendor optimization, strategic negotiations, and process improvement initiatives. This position is directly responsible for identifying opportunities to improve waste disposal margins, enhance operational efficiency, support revenue growth, and contribute to EBITDA improvement. Additionally, the SSM supports the growth and expansion of SES's waste disposal and lab pack service offerings by identifying strategic vendor partnerships, ensuring regulatory compliance, and developing scalable sourcing solutions that support customer and business growth objectives.
The Strategic Sourcing Manager serves as a key liaison between vendors, logistics, sales, operations, and compliance teams to ensure effective waste stream management, lab pack coordination, service reliability, regulatory compliance, and overall vendor performance while supporting the company's strategic growth initiatives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Increase margins within waste disposal.
- Conduct 1st and 2nd best available vendor research and selection.
- Negotiate vendor contracts, pricing agreements, and service terms.
- Coordinate vendor onboarding and qualification processes.
- Capture, maintain, and manage vendor specifications and capabilities.
- Support Sales and Logistics teams with pricing estimates and quote preparation.
- Maintain ongoing vendor coordination and relationship management.
- Perform cost and price analysis to support operational and financial objectives.
- Manage TSDF vendor approval timelines and sourcing requirements.
- Manage recycler vendor revenue targets and rebate revenue initiatives.
Monitor and manage cost of sales associated with waste streams and vendor activities. - Analyze sourcing opportunities and identify process improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with internal departments to optimize vendor utilization and operational performance.
- Support strategic sourcing projects and additional duties as assigned.
- Oversight of hazardous and non-hazardous waste profiling.
- Coordination with Profile Specialists and TSDF vendors.
- SDS review and waste characterization support.
- Profile recertification coordination.
- Environmental compliance vendor coordination.
- Profile documentation management.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Supply Chain, Logistics, Environmental Services, or related field preferred.
- Experience in strategic sourcing, vendor management, logistics, procurement, or environmental services.
- Strong negotiation, analytical, and vendor relationship management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Outlook.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience working with TSDF vendors and waste stream management.
- Experience with in industrial, environmental, transportation, or waste management industries.
- Knowledge of vendor lifecycle management and cost analysis methodologies.
- Experience supporting sales and operational pricing initiatives.
- Familiarity with hazardous waste profiling.
- RCRA, DOT, and TSDF regulatory understanding.
- Environmental compliance experience.
- Waste profiling systems experience.
- SDS interpretation and waste characterization knowledge.
- Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills.
- Ability to negotiate effectively and manage vendor relationships.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, Operations, Logistics, and Finance teams.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
