Responsibilities- Determine the nature and location of calls requesting public safety, fire, medical, or other emergency and non‑emergency services and dispatch, track, and monitor appropriate responses using computer aided dispatch (CAD) software.
- Receive and screen telephone and radio calls, collecting information regarding crimes or emergencies in progress to relay to safety force personnel.
- Document critical information to maintain the location and status of Public Safety units in the field.
- Exercise reasonable independent judgment to determine priorities for service response in accordance with established procedures and protocols.
- Coordinate on‑site activities of safety forces to ensure efficient and effective support services.
- Notify and coordinate responses with outside agencies (police, fire units, Disaster Management personnel, hospital management, and other first responders).
- Enter, update, and retrieve information for a variety of sources, including officers working in the field.
- Operate a variety of communications equipment, including multiple channel radio consoles, telephone and computer systems.
- Monitor various alarm systems, closed circuit cameras, access control systems, and building maintenance programs; relay weather‑related problems to appropriate personnel.
- Maintain 24‑hour, seven‑day coverage of the dispatch function by working evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Have extensive knowledge of public safety operations at each campus served by UC Health Department of Public Safety, including physical locations, policies, procedures, and facility operations.
- Minimum required:
High School Diploma or GED. - Preferred:
Associate’s Degree. - APCO Basic Telecommunicator certification required within one year of hire.
- Minimum required: 3–5 years equivalent experience.
- Preferred: 6–10 years equivalent experience.
