Operations Manager
Job Summary
Construction Managers are Dennis Group’s project site supervisors that oversee the daily operations of construction activities, including coordination of subcontractors, site safety programs, project schedule, and project budget. Our projects design and build food and beverage process facilities (industrial / MEP projects). This role requires extensive coordination with multiple engineering groups, designers, and architects. The Construction Manager is a skilled communicator who interacts with all levels of personnel, facilitates meetings, and applies strong technical and software skills to manage construction projects proficiently.
SiteSupervisory Responsibilities
- Daily supervision of construction activities, including coordination of subcontractors and site safety programs.
- Oversight and supervision of any assigned field engineers or Junior Construction Managers, as directed.
- Work autonomously on medium‑size projects.
- Collaborate with project management on developing and updating project scope, budget, and schedule.
- Perform project accounting, budgeting, and cost management.
- Establish and maintain site safety procedures with the safety team.
- Oversee process, mechanical, and utility equipment installations.
- Handle permitting, code, and regulatory administration and approval.
- Manage change orders and general construction administration.
- Coordinate field engineering and inspection activities.
- Manage third‑party testing, inspection, and relationships.
- Research and apply construction management best practices.
- Act as a client‑facing representative working collaboratively with owners, subcontractors, building officials, and design teams.
- Prepare and administer third‑party agreements.
- Conduct jobsite walks/audits to ensure project progress and adherence to schedules.
- Procure project services and equipment (rentals, PPE, etc.).
- Support and coordinate facility start‑up.
- Maintain project reports and logs.
- Work with subcontractors to ensure schedule compliance and determine alternative resources or options.
- Review and maintain submittals, RFIs, and change orders.
- Collaborate with Project Controllers and Project Manager on supplier invoices and client billing.
- Perform engineering calculations.
- Assist in preparing permit applications.
- Help prepare work plans and work packages.
- Interpret drawings and specifications for field crews.
- Manage project punch‑list inspections.
- Promote continuous and productive communication among project participants.
- Coordinate project close‑out activities.
- Assume safety responsibilities across various capabilities.
- Support talent growth within the organization.
- Provide coaching or mentoring to a subordinate group when directed by a supervisor.
- Other tasks as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in construction science, building science, construction engineering, or a related field (strongly preferred).
- 4+ years of design‑build experience on industrial projects (strongly preferred).
- 4+ years of overseeing subcontractors and driving project schedules.
- 4+ years of client interaction experience, demonstrating strong technical, organizational, managerial, and communication skills.
- 4+ years of progressively responsible job‑site experience on industrial building projects.
- Fundamental understanding of all construction phases, with the ability to read and interpret construction documents, schedules, and budgets.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD is a plus.
- Meet travel requirement – up to 100% travel to projects throughout the USA and possible Canada.
- Work schedule requirement – 10 days onsite, 4 days off.
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer, as well as prolonged periods standing and walking around project sites with uneven surfaces.
- Must be able to traverse and inspect all areas of a jobsite in all types of weather, including walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, or stretching.
- Exposure to characteristic construction site dangers.
- Must be on‑call to address delays, emergencies, bad weather, and other issues at the jobsite.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
- Projects are located throughout the United States and Canada. This is a site‑based position with a 10 days on / 4 days off work schedule. Projects typically last from 6 to 12+ months.
- Meal and lodging per diems are provided along with reasonable travel provisions.
- Up to 100% overnight travel is required based on project needs.
