Summary:Black Swamp Steel, Inc. is a certified steel contractor serving Ohio, Indiana, and Michigan, specializing in reinforcing steel installation, structural steel erection, and reinforcing steel fabrication and supply. We are seeking an experienced, hands‑on Project Manager / Estimator to support our Structural Steel Division based in Cincinnati, Ohio.
This position is responsible for estimating, project management, client relationship development, and overall project execution within structural steel and heavy construction markets. The ideal candidate will be a motivated leader with strong construction knowledge who can successfully manage multiple projects while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, scheduling, and customer service.
Types of Work:Black Swamp Steel performs a wide range of structural steel and heavy construction projects, including:
- Manufacturing Facilities
- Commercial Construction Projects
- Beam Setting
Prefabricated Metal Building Erection
- Columns
- Beams
- Procure new work opportunities and obtain project plans and specifications from clients
- Prepare accurate quantity take‑offs and detailed cost estimates
- Review project contracts, drawings, and specifications
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously from preconstruction through completion
- Track and monitor project costs, budgets, and productivity
Prepare, review, and process project billings - Review and interpret computerized cost reports
- Coordinate with field personnel, subcontractors, suppliers, and clients to ensure successful project execution
- Maintain project schedules and ensure work is completed safely and efficiently
- Support company safety initiatives and quality control standards on all assigned projects
- Participate in project meetings and maintain clear communication with all stakeholders
- Previous project management and estimating experience in structural steel construction preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management preferred, or equivalent combinations of technical training, field experience, and industry knowledge
- Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously
- Knowledge of structural steel erection and heavy construction practices
- HCSS experience is a plus
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem‑solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and manage priorities effectively
- Willingness and ability to travel regionally up to 25% of the time
- Strong leadership and relationship‑building abilities
- Proficiency in project cost tracking and estimating processes
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications
- Strong attention to detail and time management skills
- Proficiency with computer‑based estimating and project management software
- Ability to adapt and respond effectively in fast‑paced construction environments
- Ability to work in outdoor environments and varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and uneven terrain
- Ability to safely navigate active construction job sites
- Ability to climb ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and access elevated work areas as needed
- Ability to occasionally lift and carry materials or equipment consistent with job site responsibilities
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and move throughout job sites for extended periods of time
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and comply with all company safety policies and procedures
- Must be able to travel to various job sites as required by project needs
