Job Overview

Serve as on-air personality delivering live commentary, pre and post-game analysis, sideline and studio interviews, and updates on athletic events across multiple media platforms, while following all departmental, university, conference, and NCAA policies and regulations.

Essential Functions
  • Deliver play-by-play descriptions (action-oriented), color commentary (analysis and insight), and/or sideline reporting (journalistic storytelling) during live and streaming events.
  • Prepare for broadcasts by researching and studying team statistics, player profiles, injuries, and relevant historical context.
  • Participate in pre-production meetings with producers and directors and collaborate on development of show themes, storylines and broadcast plans.
  • Communicate story ideas and collaborate on video and graphic elements with producers, associate producers, and directors in advance of broadcast.
  • Coordinate and attend coaches' meetings, practices, and press opportunities as needed for preparation.
  • Conduct pre-game, in-game, and post-game interviews with student-athletes, coaches, and staff.
  • Work closely with producers and technical staff to ensure high-quality, seamless live audio and video.
  • Write scripts, produce segments, and assist in the coordination and ideation of social media content to engage viewers.
  • Report on team news, breaking sports developments, and provide in-depth game analysis.
  • Host social media segments, podcasts, and University sponsored events.
  • May serve as emcee for athletic events as needed.
  • Assist in recruiting, training and scheduling announcer interns.

Required Education
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Four (4) years of relevant education, experience and/or other specialized training can fulfill minimum education and experience requirements

Additional Qualifications Considered
  • Clear, articulate speaking voice with strong, engaging storytelling abilities.
  • Expert understanding of rules and strategies of the sports being covered.
  • Ability to operate broadcast announce boxes, microphones and, at times, studio equipment.
  • Ability to ad-lib and react instantly to fast-paced action.
  • Strong capability to gather and organize statistics and background info.
