Job Overview
This employee provides comprehensive dental care to City residents who cannot afford private sector dental care and performs related duties as required.
Key Responsibilities- Diagnoses and treats diseases, injuries, and malformations of the teeth, periodontium, and supporting oral structures.
- Performs routine endodontics, prosthodontics, periodontics, restorative work, oral surgery, and preventive treatment as appropriate.
- Maintains detailed and accurate records of patient treatment.
- Ensures proper infection control procedures and manages patients with medical problems such as AIDS, substance abuse, psychiatric problems, and mental retardation.
- Supervises dental staff, attends clinic and staff meetings, manages inventory, and maintains equipment.
- Serves on-call for after‑hours emergencies as assigned.
- Prepares laboratory cases, authorizes lab work, and performs when appropriate.
- Travels to external work sites as needed and stays abreast of advances, changes, and technological innovations in dental medicine.
- Doctor’s degree in dentistry (D.D.S./D.M.D.) from an accredited college or university.
- Licensure to practice dentistry from the Ohio State Dental Board.
- Valid driver’s license.
- DEA registration (copy must be attached or application will be rejected).
- BCLS certification for health providers from the American Heart Association (copy must be attached or application will be rejected).
- Excellent communicator and team builder.
- Previous professional dentistry experience preferred but not required.
Military education and experience may be substituted for college‑level coursework at the lower and upper division baccalaureate and graduate levels and apprenticeship training at the vocational certificate level on a case‑by‑case basis based on the American Council on Education (ACE) Military Guide recommendations.
Background Investigation & CitizenshipA criminal background investigation will be conducted for this position. All positions with the City of Cincinnati require that each applicant be a citizen of the United States or have a valid permanent resident card at the time of appointment.
Environmental & Physical ConditionsIndoor dental clinic environment; exposure to office computer screens; exposure to noise and vibrations from use of tools; exposure to dust, fumes from a variety of toxic substances; potential for high stress related to difficult patients, medical emergencies and accidental exposure to infected materials through instruments or needle stick. Duties require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, standing and walking for prolonged periods of time;
moderate lifting; pushing, reaching; general manual dexterity; must be able to distinguish colors; must be able to operate assigned vehicle.
