Position: Physician (Otolaryngology)

Overview

The surgeon will provide direct surgical care to inpatient and outpatient patients; assist in the clinical education of surgical residents and students; pursue research opportunities; and participate in administrative assignments such as committee membership. Section chiefs have the added responsibility of administrative/management of their surgical subspecialty.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

Basic Requirements
  • United States Citizenship.
  • Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a VA-approved school.
  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, Commonwealth, or D.C.
  • Residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty leading to board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Preferred experience:

    Board Eligible/Board Certified in Otolaryngology.
  • Physical examination required prior to placement.
Duties
  • Section chief responsibility for administrative/management of surgical subspecialty.
  • Assess resource needs, implement policy, and report fiscal responsibility.
  • Practice full range of adult otolaryngology surgery, including inpatient management, outpatient clinic care, and telemedicine across VA referral sites.
  • Provide resident supervision and clinical instruction in the operating room, outpatient clinic, and inpatient settings.
  • Attend and supervise residents/students in outpatient clinics and evaluate patient decision for treatment/care and documentation in the electronic patient record.
  • Conduct postoperative follow-up and accompany patient to the PACU to assure optimal recovery.
  • Participate in call coverage to advise and supervise residents.

    Monday to Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm.
