Clinical Chemist & Toxicologist, COM Pathology & Laboratory Medicine

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Cincinnati seeks to hire an outstanding, full-time academic Clinical Chemist. Salary and academic rank are commensurate with experience.

Essential Functions:

  • Directorship of the clinical chemistry and toxicology sections of the University of Cincinnati Medical Center Laboratory
  • Participation in point-of-care testing
  • Expertise in test development, method validation, laboratory information systems, and laboratory automation
  • Mass spectrometry experience preferred
  • Consultation and collaboration with health professionals
  • Quality improvement and quality assurance activities
  • Laboratory stewardship opportunities
  • Contribution to pathology resident education

The capability to provide high quality clinical service, work cooperatively and collegially, and use excellent interpersonal and communication skills to build and maintain relationships with medical and technical staff, trainees, and others, are required.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Medical degree (M.D. or equivalent)
  • Completion of a three-year Anatomic Pathology, a three-year Clinical Pathology, or a four-year Anatomic and Clinical Pathology residency program
  • Completion of 12-month fellowship training or at least 12 months experience in Clinical Chemistry
  • Licensure by the State of Ohio Medical Board
  • Or A doctoral degree in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution, certified by an HHS-approved board
  • Two (2) years of laboratory training or experience, or both, and experience supervising high complexity testing

Additional Qualifications Considered:

  • Board-certification or eligibility in Clinical Chemistry or Clinical Pathology

Physical Requirements/Work Environment:

Office environment/no specific unusual physical or environmental demands.
