The Genetics and Genomics Diagnostic Laboratory in the Division of Human Genetics, Department of Pediatrics at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC) and the University of Cincinnati School of Medicine (UCCOM) is recruiting for an Associate Professor/Professor and Clinical Laboratory Director position. Board certification in Laboratory Genetics and Genomics, or equivalent, and a prior academic appointment at the Associate or full Professor level are required.

Desirable qualifications include:

  • A vision for a comprehensive multiomic testing service for patients, including molecular genetics, cytogenetic testing, and innovative technologies
  • Experience with rapid genome sequencing and/or long-read genome sequencing technologies
  • Experience with leadership and managing a genetic testing laboratory that offers in‑house and reference laboratory testing, including regulatory aspects of clinical genetic testing
  • Experience working in the clinical laboratory industry

The Genetics Laboratories are CLIA and CAP certified and perform testing for inherited diseases and somatic alterations, supporting more than 200 disorders and conditions. The laboratories also provide training programs in Medical Genetics and Laboratory Genetics and Genomics, and a master’s program for genetic counselors.

Patient Care

Provide safe, effective, and compassionate patient care commensurate with the level of advancement and clinical specialty. Develop a local and regional recognition by peers and patients as an authority in the field. Develop a local or regional referral base for subspecialty. Develop clinical skills or programs that are locally or regionally distinctive.

Teaching and Training

Teach and supervise the patient care of assigned medical students, residents, and fellows, monitoring the medical care provided to ensure it is safe and effective. Contribute to teaching excellence, serve as a role model and mentor, participate in major teaching or clinical training programs, and produce lectures for residents. Participate in all divisional/departmental educational activities and maintain currency in the field through continuing education.

Service

and Administration

Participate in service and/or administration through program development, consultation, performance improvement, and committee involvement. Maintain currency in departmental policies, procedures, and standards; promote team concept and achieve long- and short-term goals. Complete evaluations for students, residents, and peers.

Scholarly Activity

Engage in scholarly activities such as publication of clinical investigations, reviews, books, clinical trials, manuscript review, and design of clinical research. Present findings internally, recommend improvements, develop new processes, and obtain external funding for research and teaching programs.

Job Qualifications
  • Doctor of Medicine, Ph.D., or equivalent
  • Board Certification in Laboratory Genetics and Genomics or equivalent
  • Associate Professor or Professor appointment or eligibility
