Job Overview

This is a full-time, visiting appointment on an academic year (nine-month) service basis paid over twelve months, carrying an initial appointment of a one (1) year contract with potential for a one (1) year renewal based on performance. The expected start date is August 15, 2025. Work authorization sponsorship is not available for this position.

Duties include teaching, academic advising, BFA & MFA recruitment, participation in production related meetings, and department/division faculty meetings. Teaching responsibilities include three classes per semester in costume production from introductory level to advanced. Class subjects such as, but not limited to:
Basic and Advanced Construction, Patterning/Draping, Tailoring, and Lab Courses.

Essential Functions
  • Conduct and teach assigned undergraduate and/or graduate-level courses and seminars.
  • Attend meetings, participate in governance, prepare materials for teaching.
  • Recruit BFA & MFA students.
  • Serve as an academic adviser for students and evaluate student coursework.
  • Engage in other activities ancillary to or in support of his or her responsibilities.
  • Render service to the professional or lay community which is relevant to the individual’s academic specialty.
  • Review, and where necessary, respond in a timely manner to all University-related communications.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
  • MFA in Costume Technology or equivalent terminal degree in Theatre or related field
  • Five (5+) years professional working history in Costume Technology
  • Teaching experience and/or supervisory experience with emerging artists and students in training
Required Education

MFA in Costume Technology or equivalent terminal degree in Theatre or related field

Additional Qualifications Considered
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in costume production areas in professional and/or educational setting(s).
  • Three (3) or more years of teaching experience at the college level.
  • Three (3) or more years of supervisory experience, such as leading a team as a Theatrical Draper, Tailor, or First Hand.
  • Pedagogy that reflects current best practices and utilizes innovative, student-centered approaches.
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting a respectful and supportive work environment that values the well-being of all individuals.
  • Demonstrated experience with Costume Crafts.
