Job Overview

The College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Cincinnati is seeking a candidate to prepare multiple laboratory sections of Cell Biology (BIOL 2085C) and Human Comparative Anatomy (BIOL 3020C) for the department of biological sciences. This is a full-time, temporary position, with 100% of duties related to the preparation and successful completion of weekly undergraduate labs during the Spring and Summer 2026 semesters.

Responsibilities include preparing all materials, reagents, chemicals, and transportation for use in labs and field trips, ordering and maintaining inventory of all supplies needed for instruction, collaborating with faculty and graduate teaching assistants assigned as instructors, supervising assigned undergraduate student workers, and ensuring the cleanliness and safety of classrooms and lab spaces designated for prep and instruction. Additional responsibilities may include proctoring and grading lab reports and exams and communicating with students via email concerning attendance, accommodations, and academic conduct.

Lab sections are taught Monday through Friday during mornings and afternoons. Occasional weekend work during the spring semester is required. For the remainder of the annual contract, the adjunct instructor will receive additional preparation and instructional duties, based on department need.

Essential Functions

* Manage the activities of the assigned instructional support facility and laboratory and assist faculty in setting up lab courses.

* Consult with appropriate administrators to determine equipment and materials purchase priorities, evaluate and communicate condition of existing equipment; build technical apparatus as needed; responsibility for procurement activities in labs and stockrooms.

* Develop unit procedures including preparing equipment and materials and transportation for use during laboratory teaching sessions; develop preparation procedures; train students in the safe use of equipment and materials, communicate and enforce health and safety practices and procedures related to the operation of the lab; demonstrate care and use of equipment; and oversee instruction of graduate/undergraduate students in labs.

* Implement quality improvement initiatives/controls and assess student skills to ensure achievement of established department goals and objectives; ensure lab exercises yield the expected outcome and meet established quality levels.

* May serve on various university, division, and departmental committees, attend meetings/conferences and serve as interim liaison to other university departments, vendors.
