Job Overview
The Asian Studies program in the College of Arts & Sciences (A&S) offers a B.A. degree, minor, and related certificate programs; its classes cover languages, humanities, and social sciences (see the program website). The Art History program in the School of Art at DAAP offers a broad array of courses, including some cross-listed with Africana Studies and Asian Studies and Classics, ranging from the ancient world to the present.
Faculty members are internationally recognized, highly productive scholars who provide individualized mentoring to students. Requirements for the B.A. degree include the global art survey and the methodology and senior seminars. Students may opt for professional development via museum internships or our summer co-op program, as well as study abroad.
The Asian Studies and Art History programs at UC invite applications for the position of Visiting Assistant Professor of Asian Art History. This position entails teaching two classes each semester, Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 (i.e., four classes in the academic year). One class will be in East Asian Culture (from among Japanese Culture, Chinese Culture, or Korean Culture). Three classes will be in Asian Art and Art History, from among surveys of East Asian Art, Japanese Art, Chinese Art, Korean Art, Asian Buddhist Art, and additional special topics classes (for example, Art of the Silk Road).
This is a one-year position, renewable for a second year depending upon program need. Salary will be commensurate with the candidate's qualifications.
Essential Functions
- Teach four undergraduate courses in Asian Art History and East Asian Culture, as noted in the job overview.
- Contribute to student events and program activities for the Asian Studies program and the Art History program.
Prior to the effective date of appointment, all of the following are required.
- PhD in a relevant field or a comparable advanced degree.
- At least one academic year of teaching experience at the collegiate level
