Job Overview

The BS Horticulture Program in the School of Planning in the College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning at the University of Cincinnati is seeking candidates to fill adjunct positions for lecture courses in the following subjects:
  • Horticulture 4082 Intro duction to Wine .
This course is an intro duction to wine and a review of many aspects of wine that are influenced by and influencing culture, history, geography, and economies. Through readings and discussion, this course reviews wine making, health issues, the senses and their responses to wine , wine and food, and the taste of wine . Wine tastings of over 50 examples are designed to present practical experience with how vinification, viticulture, and terroir express themselves in the glass, as well as the differences that vintage, clonal origin and country of origin influence the flavors and textures of the final product.

Students will be able to describe the basic steps of vinification and the necessary functions of viticulture. Describe the science of enology, including fermentation, chemistry and zymology. Identify the flavors and origins of major grape varietals. Describe the microbiology of olfactory and taste perception. Critique a wine for color, flavor, texture, smell, and flaws.

Essential Functions
  • On a part-time basis, conduct and teach assigned undergraduate and/or graduate-level courses and seminars.
  • May serve as an academic advisor for students and evaluate student coursework.
  • Engage in other activities ancillary to or in support of responsibilities.
  • Review, and where necessary, respond in a timely manner to all University-related communications.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Horticulture, Agriculture or Environmental Science, related to specific course content and 5 years relevant experience
    -OR - master's degree in Biology, Horticulture, Agriculture or Environmental Science, related to specific course content.
Additional Qualifications Considered
  • Prior teaching experience.
  • Documented work experience in field related to specific course content.
  • Demonstrated command of principles relevant to specific course content.
