The BS Horticulture Program in the School of Planning, College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning at the University of Cincinnati is seeking adjunct instructors to teach the undergraduate course Horticulture 4082 Intro to Wine
. This course provides an introduction to wine and reviews many aspects of wine that are influenced by and influence culture, history, geography, and economies. Students will learn about:
- Wine production, health issues, and the senses’ responses to wine
- Wine and food pairings and the taste of wine
- Wine tastings with over 50 examples covering vinification, viticulture, terroir, vintage, and grape varietals
- The science of enology including fermentation, chemistry, and zymology
- The microbiology of olfactory and taste perception
- Critical evaluation of wine for color, flavor, texture, smell, and flaws
- Conduct and teach assigned undergraduate and/or graduate-level courses and seminars on a part‑time basis
- Serve as an academic advisor for students and evaluate student coursework when required
- Engage in ancillary activities and support responsibilities as assigned
- Respond promptly to all University-related communications
- Perform other related duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Horticulture, Agriculture, Environmental Science, or a related field
* and* at least 5 years of relevant experience,
** or
* * a master’s degree in one of those fields
- Prior teaching experience
- Documented work experience in a field related to the course content
- Demonstrated command of principles relevant to the course content
