GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Assist and support the principal in the total operation of the Elementary School which involves, but is not limited to, staff and student supervision, curriculum planning, school and community activities and building management by performing the following duties.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Valid certificate/license as issued by the Ohio Department of Education.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate.
  • PROFESSIONAL EXPECTATIONS
  • Report to work regularly and on time, prepared to perform appropriately assigned duties throughout the day, in service to students, staff, and the community.
  • Prepare for and perform all assigned duties required by one's job description in a positive and collaborative manner.

  • Identify, report, and/or if possible control unsafe conditions or safety hazards in order to maintain safe and secure working and learning environments.
  • Demonstrate professional respect and integrity when interacting with students, parents, staff, community members and other stakeholders. This includes and is not limited to verbal, nonverbal, personal and electronic interactions.
  • Comply with federal laws, state statutes, Board policies, and related administrative guidelines that prohibit coercive, harassing, threatening, retaliating, bullying or discriminating conduct.
  • Communicate in a truthful, timely, compassionate, and empathetic manner about any matter of interest to the District following the appropriate chain of authority.
  • Manage District property and assets in an ethical and responsible manner in accordance with federal laws, state statutes, Board policies, and related administrative guidelines.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information as required under federal laws, state statutes, Board policies, and related administrative guidelines.
  • Report actions, through the appropriate chain of authority that may represent violations of federal laws, state statutes, Board policies, and related administrative guidelines.
  • Refrain from unethical activity that may reasonably interfere with the legitimate operational interests and goals of the District.
  • Comply with all other federal laws, state statutes, Board policies, and related administrative guidelines.
  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve and supervise as the principal's representative at meetings and school when the principal is unavailable.
  • Assist in developing and coordinating educational and intervention programs through meetings with staff, review of teachers' activities, and issuance of directives.
  • Supervise teachers and support staff as assigned by the principal.
  • Confer with teachers, students and parents concerning educational and behavioral issues.
  • Assist with evaluation of the instructional program and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Assist in the recruiting, screening, hiring, training, assigning and evaluating the school's professional staff.
  • Assist the principal with the public relations program for the school.
  • Assist the principal in leading school improvement and school reform initiatives.
  • Assist with the preparation of class schedules, cumulative records and attendance reports.
  • Serve with parents, faculty and student groups as requested in advancing educational and related activities and objectives.
  • Requisition supplies, textbooks and equipment; conduct inventories; maintain records and check on receipts.
  • Communicate with and discipline students in cases of attendance and behavior problems.
  • Maintain records of student attendance and serve as representative with Juvenile Court when necessary.
  • Work with principal to coordinate and supervise student teachers program.
  • Evaluate school staff as directed by the principal.
  • OTHER INFORMATION ASSOCIATED WITH THIS POSITION
  • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program.
  • Ability to assist teachers with planning and implementing lessons based on school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents and community;
  • Ability to speak clearly and concisely in written or oral communication.
  • Ability to use computers for classroom instruction and record keeping.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
