This is a full-time, salaried position with a 9.5-month work schedule at the Summit Park campus in Blue Ash. Courses to be taught in the 2026-27 school year likely to include 7th and 8th grade general music courses (meet every other day) and 9th and 10th grade semester music electives, including choir, which meet daily.

Position Overview

The Upper School Musical Arts Teacher has the responsibility for establishing music as a vital living experience in the life of each student. He or she is expected to understand and demonstrate effective student instruction and assessment to maximize educational achievement for all students, and to work collaboratively to ensure a working and learning climate for all students that is safe, secure and respectful.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to classical education and the vision, mission, and philosophy of the school; and consistently develop, foster, and advance our core virtues in students.
  • Develop and implement a strategic planning system including course, unit, and lesson plans based on the Hillsdale K-12 classical curriculum's scope and sequence.
  • Guide students to enjoy, appreciate, and interpret music in their daily life.
  • Encourage and assist students to acquire skills in music through a series of sequential experiences.
  • Help students to develop their own self-discipline and creativity by providing opportunities in each musical experience area.
  • Coordinate music with other subject areas in the curriculum.
  • Determine the materials to be used in instruction and plan effective methods for presenting them.
  • Assist in planning, preparing, and presenting programs, field trips, and festivals for the school.
  • Evaluate student performance in music.
  • Plan in-depth experiences for special groups or individuals based on student needs.
  • Assist the Headmaster and staff in inventorying, organizing, ordering, and caring for music materials and equipment.
  • Maintain students' grades.
  • Develop and maintain a climate and culture of openness, fairness, mutual respect, kindness, support, and inquiry.
  • Listen and interact effectively with students, parents, colleagues, leadership, and community members to support student learning and well‑being.
  • Model and reinforce good judgment, prudence, virtue, self‑discipline, and responsibility.
  • Establish and maintain a safe and secure classroom environment.
  • Manage student misconduct promptly and resolve conflict and crises effectively.
  • Perform other related upper school faculty duties.
Qualifications
  • Well‑organized, well‑rounded, engaging, and able to interact joyfully with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Ability and commitment to furthering the classical mission and vision of the school.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a music‑related discipline or equivalent.
  • Ohio teacher license in music education or willingness to pursue licensure through the RESA mentor program.
  • Professional mastery in a music discipline (choral, strings, percussion, etc.).
  • Preferably a minimum of two years of experience working with school‑age children.

Compensation, Benefits and Hiring

Pay is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. Benefits offered for full‑time employees include health benefits, paid vacation, personal days, paid holidays, and enrollment in the State Teachers Retirement System. Children will receive enrollment priority if a parent is a full‑time employee at the time of enrollment. All employees will be required to pass background checks.
