Intervention Specialist:
Preschool Disability Teacher

POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Preschool Disability Teacher

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

MAJOR

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1) Participate as a collaborative team member in intervention planning, multifactored evaluations, and reevaluations for students within the required timelines.

2) Coordinate the development and continuous monitoring of Individual Educational Plans for students with disabilities to ensure appropriate services and supplemental aides and supports are provided in the least restrictive environment within required timelines consistent with The Ohio Operating Standards for the Education of Children with Disabilities.

3) Implement educational interventions and specially designed instruction, adapting, as appropriate, the content, methodology, or delivery of instruction to address the unique needs of the student.

4) Design and implement meaningful parent involvement activities that include parents as equal partners.

5) Other duties as assigned by Principal/Manager or his/her designee.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/ SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

Skills

  • Work cooperatively with regular classroom teachers, interpreting the abilities and disabilities of these students, assisting in classroom intervention strategies, modifying general education curricula as necessary, and assisting the student with regular class assignments.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and professional staff regarding the educational, social, and personal needs of students.
  • Participate in professional growth activities through staff development, in-service, workshops, and higher education.
  • Use data to plan instruction and evaluate student progress.
  • Give directions to paraprofessionals.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers and other school team members.
  • Create schedules for inclusion.
  • Use and implement the Ohio Extended Standards.
  • Have knowledge of the Alternate Assessment for Students with Significant Cognitive Disabilities (AASCD).

Knowledge

  • Knowledge and experience with research-based best practices in specialized instruction.
  • Knowledge of Ohio Learning Standards.
  • Knowledge of Operating Standards for Ohio's Educational Agencies Serving Children with Disabilities.
  • Knowledge of Ohio Model Policies and Procedures.
  • Knowledge of federal and state legislation.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
