Job Description

At Indian Hill Exempted Village School District, we believe exceptional educators inspire students to think deeply, lead confidently, and engage meaningfully with the world around them. We are seeking a passionate and student‑centered Social Studies educator to join the instructional team at Indian Hill Middle School for the 2026‑27 school year.

Responsibilities
  • Help students to learn subject matter and skills which will lead to their development as mature, able, and responsible adults.
  • Provide effective instruction and support that enables students to gain knowledge, acquire skills, and develop positive learning behaviors.
  • Implement the District's philosophy of education and instructional program in accordance with District policies and administrative guidelines, operating standards for Ohio schools, and provisions of state and federal law.
  • Follow prescribed state standards, district curriculum guides, and approved courses of study.
  • Plan instruction using written lesson plans that reflect the District's adopted courses of study.
  • Diagnose the learning needs of all students on an ongoing basis and focus instruction to address identified needs.
  • Instruct students in assigned academic content/subject, enabling them to meet established curricular objectives and IEP objectives.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques, technology, and media, consistent with the District's approved instructional program.
  • Administer standardized testing, as assigned, and assess student performance on an ongoing basis; report progress to parents/legal guardians.
  • Work with Student Services staff to support special‑needs students per IEPs or other accommodation plans.
  • Provide individualized learning opportunities, enrichment, support, intervention, and remediation.
  • Respect the diversity of students' cultures, language skills, and experiences.
  • Create a learning environment that is physically and emotionally safe.
  • Participate in professional development training and implement district initiatives, including PBIS and crisis/safety plans.
  • Maintain records as required by law, district policy, and administrative guidelines.
  • Motivate students to work productively and take responsibility for their learning.
  • Maintain a class environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the students' maturity and interests.
  • Maintain organization and control of student behavior and discipline.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with students, parents, and community.
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with other teachers, administrators, parents, and school/district staff.
  • Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Utilize technology and social media responsibly, in accordance with district policies.
  • Meet professional expectations of attendance, suitable attire and decorum, and participation in meetings and district initiatives.
  • Respond to the principal on matters affecting the program and building operation.
Preferred Skills
  • ELA 4‑9 certification
  • Experience with Middle School students
Qualifications
  • Valid State of Ohio teaching license (Social Studies, 4‑9)
  • Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution.
  • Commitment to meeting the learning needs of all students.
  • Proficient in basic computer skills and applications.
  • Good health and attendance record.
  • Additional qualifications as required by the Board of Education.
Physical/Other Requirements
  • Able to access classroom, office, and appropriate areas of school and district property.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Capable of presenting information to individuals, small groups, and large groups effectively.
  • Works successfully with students, teachers, support staff, administrators, parents, and community.
