Job OverviewThe University of Cincinnati Libraries seeks a dynamic, passionate and creative Science Librarian to deliver responsive and innovative research and instructional programs that engage with users in designated STEM academic and research programs. The Librarian provides critical support through research assistance and consultations, teaching and workshops, collection development and support for research services including scholarly communications and publishing support, data services and digital scholarship.
The Librarian is the designated liaison for science and math-oriented programs and units in the College of Arts and Sciences (A&S) including Biological Sciences, Mathematical Sciences and Physics. More broadly, the Librarian collaborates within the Science disciplines and across the entire university, fostering connections with fellow librarians, teaching and research faculty, and others in pursuit of cross-cutting initiatives and scholarly outcomes.
This is a full-time 12-month library faculty tenure-track position.
Reports to and receives general direction from the Director of the Science and Engineering Libraries (SEL). Functional supervisor for student assistants as related to responsibilities and special projects.
Essential Functions- Liaison librarian for designated academic programs, units and initiatives across STEM. Develops, implements, and assesses innovative solutions that foster liaison outreach and integration, library services, student engagement, and new partnerships.
- Provides in-depth and specialized research consultations for STEM students, faculty and the broader community of researchers. May include advanced literature searching, locating scientific data, citation management software support, and other current needs.
- Coordinates library collection development for assigned disciplines. Develops and implements data-driven strategies for growing, enhancing, and evaluating collections. Leads collaborative assessment of print and special collections located at the Science Library and contributes to team-based collection development initiatives in the Science and Engineering Libraries and across all UC Libraries.
- Plans and delivers library instruction and workshops for faculty, students, and researchers. Coordinates with faculty to integrate scholarly resources across the curriculum and incorporates best practices with pedagogy and teaching, research guides and curricular integration.
- Contributes to library-wide initiatives aligned with STEM, including scholarly communication, open access publishing, open educational resources (OERs), research data services, and digitization/digital initiatives.
- Collaborates with librarians in the Science and Engineering Libraries and libraries-wide on initiatives in instruction, outreach and promotion, collection development, special collections and archives, and library faculty research and scholarship.
- Serves on appropriate committees, working groups, and professional organizations as related to duties and responsibilities, librarian liaison disciplines and the strategic interests of UC Libraries.
Master's degree in library or information science/management or relevant graduate education, or a comparable combination of education and experience.
Required ExperienceOne year of experience in an academic or research library. Experience with training and/or instruction.
Additional Qualifications Considered- Educational or experiential background in science or engineering.
- One year of work experience in a STEM-oriented library or information services environment.
- Commitment to innovative and responsive library services.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Experience with library collection development and collections management.
- Knowledge of current teaching pedagogies and instructional technologies.
- Demonstrated awareness of trends and issues in scholarly communications, open access and open science.
- Ability and interest in fulfilling the scholarly and service requirements for reappointment, tenure and promotion of library faculty.

Compensation and BenefitsSalary Information: $63,000 - $68,000
