Job DescriptionCincinnati Public Schools is seeking a qualified, student-centered educator to serve as a Law and Public Safety Teacher shared between Withrow University High School and Western Hills University High School. This position is responsible for providing high-quality instruction in courses related to law, public safety, criminal justice, emergency response, public service, and career readiness. The selected candidate will support student achievement through engaging instruction, pathway development, credential-aligned learning opportunities, and strong connections to postsecondary and workforce outcomes.
EssentialFunctions
- Plan and deliver instruction aligned to district curriculum, course expectations, and student learning needs
- Teach courses within the Law and Public Safety pathway, which may include topics related to criminal justice, public safety systems, emergency response, communications, ethics, legal responsibilities, workplace safety, and career readiness
- Create and maintain a safe, structured, and engaging classroom environment that supports positive student behavior and academic growth
- Differentiate instruction to address varied student readiness levels, learning styles, and support needs
- Use a variety of instructional strategies, including direct instruction, project-based learning, simulations, applied learning, and performance-based assessments
- Assess student progress regularly and use data to adjust instruction, provide interventions, and support student success
- Maintain accurate records related to attendance, grades, student progress, credentialing, and other district requirements
- Support students in developing employability skills, including communication, teamwork, professionalism, leadership, critical thinking, and problem-solving
- Collaborate with school staff, counselors, administrators, families, and district personnel to support student achievement and pathway implementation
- Build and maintain partnerships with business, industry, public agencies, postsecondary institutions, and community organizations to strengthen student learning and career exposure
- Support career-connected learning opportunities, including credentialing, work-based learning, internships, and pathway development, as appropriate
- Participate in professional learning, department meetings, curriculum work, school initiatives, and other assigned responsibilities
- Travel between assigned school sites and effectively manage responsibilities across both locations
- Maintain compliance with district expectations, state requirements, and applicable career-technical education expectations
- Ability to obtain a CTE Provisional License
- Relevant experience in law, public safety, criminal justice, emergency services, dispatch, emergency communications, homeland security, corrections, or a related field
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with high school students
- Strong communication, organization, and classroom management skills
Ability to connect instruction to real-world college and career opportunities - Satisfactory criminal background check and all required employment clearances
- Experience teaching in a high school, career-technical, alternative, or workforce-development setting
- Experience in public safety communications, first response, law enforcement, or related public service fields
- Experience supporting industry credentials, pathway development, or work-based learning opportunities
- Experience building partnerships with employers, agencies, or community organizations
- Strong understanding of student engagement, career readiness, and applied instruction
- Knowledge of law and public safety career fields and related workforce expectations
