Job Overview
The University of Cincinnati College of Law seeks a part‑time adjunct instructor to teach a Legal Ethics course during Fall 2026. The course explores the lawyer‑client relationship, ethical decision making, and the responsibilities of legal professionals, emphasizing competency, confidentiality, and conflicts of interest.
Essential Functions- Prepare a comprehensive syllabus, including course description, learning objectives, assessment dates, policies, required and recommended materials, assignments, and university policies.
- Develop lesson plans, teaching materials, assessments, and exams.
- Provide a classroom environment conducive to learning.
- Deliver the assigned course(s) using effective pedagogical methods.
- Track student attendance and refer concerns to Administration as required.
- Use Canvas (or the institution’s learning management platform) to post assignments, syllabi, reference materials, and communicate with students.
- Read and provide timely written feedback on submitted student work and exams.
- Hold office hours to offer individualized guidance and assess progress.
- Coordinate with Administration to schedule make‑up classes for any cancellations.
- Grade mid‑term and final exams and other assessments in accordance with college rules and submit grades within established timelines.
- Review student course evaluations to identify areas for instructional improvement.
- Adhere to all university and college policies.
- Complete all required employment documentation and trainings.
- Hold a J.D. from an ABA‑accredited law school or an equivalent qualification.
- Have five years of post‑J.D. legal practice experience or fewer if co‑teaching with a qualified partner.
- Demonstrate effective communication skills.
- Maintain professional composure and demeanor at all times.
- Promote the vision, mission, and core values of the College.
Prior teaching experience is desirable but not required. Candidates should provide evidence of teaching potential. Face‑to‑face instruction is the default mode unless distance learning is approved by the College under the Distance Learning Policy.
Physical Requirements- No specific physical or environmental demands; work is conducted in an office environment.
Competitive salary based on experience. Part‑time adjuncts receive a limited tuition remission benefit covering most undergraduate and graduate programs offered by the university. Retirement plans are available through state pension systems (OPERS, STRS) without Social Security contributions.
