Our growing Ohio virtual public charter school is seeking an experienced and collaborative Special Education Coordinator to help build and support a high-quality special education program as the school continues to expand. This is an exciting opportunity for a strong leader who enjoys creating systems, supporting staff, ensuring compliance, and working closely with school leadership in a start‑up environment.
The Special Education Coordinator will work directly with the School Leader and administrative team to develop and implement effective special education processes, oversee compliance, support service delivery, and help establish a strong foundation for student success in a virtual learning environment.
Position Responsibilities- Coordinate and oversee day‑to‑day special education operations
- Ensure compliance with IDEA, Ohio Department of Education requirements, and charter school policies
- Support development and implementation of special education procedures and workflows
- Coordinate referrals, evaluations, eligibility meetings, and IEP processes
- Monitor timelines, documentation, caseloads, and service delivery compliance
- Collaborate closely with School Leadership and administrative staff to build systems and operational procedures
- Support related service providers, intervention specialists, and case managers
- Participate in IEP meetings and provide guidance to staff and families
- Assist with state reporting, audits, compliance monitoring, and records management
- Help establish best practices for virtual service delivery and parent communication
- Coordinate with outside vendors and contracted providers as needed
- Support onboarding and training of special education staff
- Medicaid billing coordination (initially)
- Valid Ohio administrative licensure or appropriate Ohio special education licensure
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in special education leadership, coordination, or program management
- Previous experience serving as a Special Education Coordinator strongly preferred
- Strong knowledge of IDEA, ETRs, IEP compliance, and Ohio special education regulations
- Experience working in public schools or charter school settings
- Ability to work collaboratively with school leadership, staff, families, and outside providers
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem‑solving skills
- Experience helping establish or grow new school programs
- Knowledge of Medicaid billing and related service coordination
- Knowledge of Ohio Special Education Code
- Experience managing compliance systems and timelines
- Familiarity with virtual platforms and online documentation systems
- Full‑time, 12‑month position
