Data Services Librarian

Xavier University seeks a Data Services Librarian to support data research services, education, and instruction programs for learning, teaching, and scholarship.

• Assist students with data discovery, management, and visualization in assignments, research, and scholarship through in-person and online consultations.
• Facilitate and lead instructional programming related to research data management and data literacy, including designing, developing, and delivering instruction in multiple formats (in-person, hybrid, synchronous, asynchronous online).
• Create asynchronous library research learning objects such as videos, tutorials, quizzes, handouts, worksheets, and Lib Guides related to data discovery and use.
• Coordinate with Digital Initiatives Librarian, Head of Educational Services, and Instruction Librarian to design and deliver integrated library and data instruction.
• Advise faculty across five colleges on recommended data management practices throughout the research lifecycle, emphasizing open data.
• Perform analytics, evaluation, and other data-related services for University Library.
• Serve as primary librarian liaison to the Center for Research Excellence.
• Stay abreast of best practices in data services to integrate into instruction and research.
• Provide informed recommendations for data-related tools and products for potential use and purchase.
• Participate in collection development, programming, and serve on internal and external committees as a librarian liaison.

• Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (MLS/MLIS) from an ALA‑accredited program.
• Understanding of the research data lifecycle and research processes in a variety of disciplines.
• Demonstrated interest, education or experience in teaching and instruction of data literacy.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team‑based environment.
• Strong attention to detail.

• Experience with instructional technologies and content creation tools (e.g., Panopto, Canva, Lib Guides).
• Knowledge of statistical methods.
• Experience with data preparation, organization, and visualization methodologies and tools.
• Awareness of data preservation best practices.
• Familiarity with Canvas or a similar learning management system.
• Knowledge of Open Access and Open Educational Resources.

$57,000–$60,000 commensurate with professional experience.
