Adjunct Instructor, Legal Research and Writing for LLM Students, College of Law

Job Overview

The University of Cincinnati College of Law seeks lawyers and judges to teach a part‑time Legal Research and Writing course for LLM students during Fall 2026. The course introduces students to research skills, persuasion strategies, and written communication essential for legal practice.

Essential Functions
  • Prepare the syllabus, select teaching materials, and develop lesson plans.
  • Provide a classroom environment conducive to learning.
  • Teach the assigned course using effective pedagogical methods.
  • Track student attendance and refer attendance or performance issues to Administration.
  • Use the institution’s learning management platform (Canvas) to post assignments and communicate with students.
  • Read submitted student work, provide written comments in a timely manner.
  • Hold office hours for individualized guidance.
  • Work with Administration to schedule make‑up classes for cancelled sessions.
  • Grade mid‑term and final exams and other assessments; submit grades per Associate Dean timelines.
  • Review course evaluations to assess teaching effectiveness.
  • Adhere to all University and College of Law policies.
  • Complete employment documentation and required trainings.
Minimum Requirements
  • Hold a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA‑accredited law school or equivalent.
  • Five years post‑J.D. experience in legal practice or a related field (exceptions allowed for co‑teaching).
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Professional composure and demeanor.
  • Promote the College’s vision, mission, and core values.
Additional Qualifications Considered
  • Prior teaching experience desirable, but not essential.
  • Demonstration of teaching potential required.
  • Face‑to‑face instruction is default; distance learning may be approved under the Distance Learning Policy.
