COACHING RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee all aspects of the Junior High Track Program including tryouts, practices, and games.
- Develop and execute an effective training program.
- Motivate and mentor student‑athletes on and off the track.
- Instruct and guide student‑athletes in fundamental skills, strategies, and physical training necessary for individual and team success.
- Encourage the formulation and enhancement of moral values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self‑discipline, and self‑confidence.
- Foster teamwork, discipline, respect, sportsmanship, and skills development.
- Ensure the safety and well‑being of student‑athletes.
- Cooperate in a timely manner with the School Athletic Director and District Athletic Department regarding pertinent information.
- Meet all requirements mandated by the District Board of Education, OHSAA, and ODE related to Coach’s Tool Chest (CTC) Training/Certification and the ODE Pupil Activity Permit (PAP).
- Check the academic eligibility status of all prospective student‑athletes.
- Follow District Athletic Department policies as outlined in the Coach’s Handbook and meet all criteria listed in the job description.
- Model expected behavior: timeliness, positivity, enthusiasm, respect, constructive criticism, and discipline.
- Maintain suitable sideline conduct and appropriate language at all times.
- Accept and use constructive criticism and suggestions to improve coaching performance.
- Implement all applicable administrative policies set forth by the District Board, Superintendents, Principals, Conference Leagues, ODE, and OHSAA.
- Provide all applicable in‑season training rules and any out‑of‑season conduct rules to student‑athletes before the season begins; follow due process when violations occur.
- Participate in clinics and other programs to improve coaching performance.
- Participate in school events such as Awards Night, Pep Assemblies, and Athletic Booster Meetings.
- Assist in ensuring the team is well‑prepared for opponents.
- Maintain an accurate inventory of equipment and supplies.
- Strong knowledge of track rules and techniques.
- Passionate and dedicated to inspiring student‑athletes.
- Previous track coaching experience preferred.
- Ability to motivate and inspire student‑athletes.
- Positive role model for student‑athletes.
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills in track and field.
- Fundraising experience.
- Ohio Secondary Teaching Certificate preferred.
- Evidence of successful past coaching experience at the high school and/or college level desired.
- Satisfactory results of County Police Records Check, State BCII Check, and FBI Fingerprint Background Check required.
- Possession of an Ohio Department of Education (ODE) Pupil Activity Permit (PAP).
- Proof of completion of Coach’s Tool Chest (CTC) Training/Certification.
