Job Overview

The University of Cincinnati College of Law seeks experienced lawyers and judges to teach a Medical Malpractice course on a part‑time basis during Spring 2027 or Fall 2028. The course examines tort liability for injuries arising from medical care, including claims against physicians, hospitals, and other health care institutions. Topics include the professional standard of care, informed consent, evidentiary challenges involving medical negligence, expert testimony, malpractice insurance systems, statutory damages caps, and the relationship between litigation and patient safety.

Adjunct faculty bring practical experience and expertise to the program and play a crucial role in enriching the curriculum.

Essential Functions
  • Prepare the syllabus, select teaching materials and assessments, and devise lesson plans.
  • Provide a classroom environment conducive to learning.
  • Teach the assigned course(s) using effective pedagogical methods.
  • Track student attendance and refer issues to the administration as needed.
  • Use Canvas to post assignments, syllabi, reference materials, and communicate with students.
  • Read student work and provide timely written feedback.
  • Hold office hours to give individualized direction and assess progress.
  • Coordinate make‑up classes with administration for cancelled sessions to ensure required teaching hours.
  • Grade mid‑term and final exams and other assessments in accordance with College rules.
  • Review student evaluations to identify teaching improvements.
  • Adhere to all University and College of Law policies.
  • Complete employment documentation and required trainings.
Minimum Requirements
  • Juris Doctor degree from an ABA‑accredited law school or equivalent.
  • Five years post‑JD work experience in legal practice or a related field (exceptions for co‑teaching arrangements).
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Maintain professional composure and demeanor at all times.
  • Promote vision, mission, and core values of the College.
Additional Qualifications Considered
  • Prior teaching experience is desirable but not essential; evidence of teaching potential is required.
  • Face‑to‑face instruction is the default mode, but distance learning can be approved under the Distance Learning Policy.
