Visiting Assistant Professor, Greek and Latin Language and Literature, College of Arts and Sciences
The Department of Classics in the College of Arts & Sciences at the University of Cincinnati invites applications for a one-year non-renewable position as a Visiting Assistant Professor in Classics, with specialization in Greek and/or Latin language and literature. The appointment will begin on August 15, 2026, and entails a 2/2 or 2/3 teaching load. Teaching duties will include Intensive Latin, as well as courses in translation (Mythology, Sex and Gender in Antiquity, and Great Books from ancient Greece).
A Ph.D. in Classics or a related field by the time of the appointment is expected, although we will also consider advanced Ph.D. candidates. Candidates who are not US citizens are eligible for this position provided that they are already studying or working in the United States.
Essential Functions:
- Teach undergraduate courses in Ancient Greek and Latin
- Teach undergraduate courses in translation on Greek and/or Latin literature(s) and culture(s)
- Teach undergraduate courses in translation on Greek and Roman mythology
Minimum Requirements:
- Doctoral Degree in Classics or a related field, completed or expected within one academic year
- In-depth knowledge in the field of Classics
- Teaching experience in Latin
- Teaching experience in courses in translation, preferably Mythology and/or Sex and Gender
