Automotive Service Management Annual Contracted Instructor Overview
Cincinnati State Technical and Community College invites applications for our Annual Contracted Instructor (ACI) for Automotive Service Management. An ACI is full-time, benefits-eligible, non-tenure-track faculty for a finite appointment period. Their sole responsibility is to provide classroom instruction of credit-bearing courses and a minimum of ten office hours per week for students enrolled in their courses. This appointment is for one year commencing July 27, 2026.
Qualified candidates will need to teach college-level courses to our students in our Kenwood Dealer Group School of Automotive Technology at Cincinnati State. Instruction is entirely in-person on our Clifton campus. As part of our team of highly qualified faculty, ACIs are expected to provide high quality instruction as well as to stay current in trends and workforce needs within the region.
- Deliver learner-centered instruction at a variety of days and times in response to institutional needs.
- Teach assigned introductory and upper-level Automotive courses as scheduled in response to institutional needs.
- Ensure course and program learning outcomes are delivered as defined by the syllabus.
- Promote student success by showing flexibility in style as well as exhibiting a passion for teaching and students by engaging students in the learning process.
- Make continuous efforts to improve the quality of instruction by reviewing and utilizing innovative methodologies, techniques and delivery methods.
- Provide each student with clear course expectations, evaluations and timelines through carefully written topical outlines and approved, standardized syllabus.
- Assess student performance in achieving course objectives to evaluate the effectiveness of the course.
- Post grades timely to our learning management system (Brightspace), provide students with meaningful feedback, and meet all data reporting deadlines.
- Respond to requests (e.g., from students, academic area chairs, department heads, committee chairs, Records Office) in a timely and thorough manner.
- Consult with the program chair or other appropriate College personnel on questions or issues involving course curricula, instructional strategies, and College policies and procedures.
- Some night or weekend hours may be required.
- Maintain ten (10) office hours per week.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent plus three years of experience in a professional shop setting, emphasizing advanced diagnostics
- Ability to lift a minimum of 35 pounds.
- Ability to stand in a lab environment for up to six (6) hours.
- Ability to stoop, kneel, reach, and crouch.
- Current and valid driver's license with clean driving record.
- Ability to operate typical automotive machinery & complete training for new equipment as necessary.
- Ability to work evenings and/or weekends as college business needs may require.
- Functional technical competency in software and computer usage required for classroom instruction, and the recording and reporting of student performance data.
- Experience as an automotive educator in a community college program or high school setting or providing industry training.
- Experience with Brightspace, Ellucian Colleague and/or Starfish systems.
- Experience working with students from diverse academic backgrounds and life experiences.
- Understanding of diverse methods of classroom technology, and innovative instructional/academic support systems and programs.
- Professional demeanor and the ability to serve as proper role model and representative of the automotive industry.
- Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively as a team member with a diverse professional community and student population.
- Demonstrate good organizational and planning skills including oral and written communication.
- Demonstrate ability to interact successfully with academic as well as business & regulatory personnel.
