Specialized Classroom Instructional Aide – 6 hrs. per day / 5 days per week

Oak Hills Local School District – Delshire Elementary School – Cincinnati, Ohio

Position Overview

The Aide provides support services that help students benefit from the educational program. The position is a 6‑hour, 5‑day per week instructional aide role, scheduled during the student school year. Salary is according to the district instructional assistant schedule.

Responsibilities and Essential Functions
  • Works effectively with minimal supervision and meets deadlines.
  • Provides support services including student assistance with daily living activities, behavior management, instructional support, social skills training, task redirection, etc.
  • Helps individuals or small groups with remedial or enrichment activities.
  • Supports the implementation of individualized educational plans (IEP) and intervention strategies.
  • Prepare and distribute program materials; set up classroom equipment such as computers, media resources; maintain program areas and equipment.
  • Operate and assist with specialized equipment for braille and other assistive devices, including braillers, keyboarding equipment, electronic scanners, and personal computers.
  • Assist with braille translation and basic formatting, including literacy, foreign language, and Nemeth Code rules.
  • Support students with disabilities in participating in classroom activities and inclusive learning environments.
  • Perform physical tasks such as balancing, bending, climbing, crouching, kneeling, reaching, and standing; lift, carry, and move supplies and equipment as needed.
  • Maintain professional appearance and punctuality; respect privacy and keep confidentiality.
  • Communicate effectively: prepare accurate records, submit required paperwork on time, and maintain open communication with supervisors and coworkers.
  • Follow district policies for safety, bullying, discrimination, child abuse, and other applicable laws.
  • Participate in trainings and professional development as directed.
Qualifications
  • Valid state Department of Education license or permit (as determined at the time of appointment).
  • Meet all mandated state/federal criteria, including approved degree or acceptable score on authorized professional standards tests.
  • Behavioral management skills substantiated by training or work experience; ability to provide physical assistance where required.
  • Compliance with drug‑free workplace rules, board policies, and administrative guidelines.
  • Dependability, flexibility, and ability to react to interruptions and emerging priorities.
  • High ethical standards and integrity.
  • Critical‑thinking, impartial, and resourceful skills.
  • Record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment.
Additional Requirements

Position may require successful completion of communicable disease screening, child abuse/neglect screening, CPR, and/or first aid training as a condition of employment.

Working Conditions
  • Safety is essential. Employees must exercise caution and comply with standard safety regulations and district procedures.
  • Physical demands may include balancing, bending, climbing, crouching, kneeling, reaching, standing, lifting, carrying, and moving supplies and equipment.
  • Exposure to adverse weather, temperature extremes, airborne particulates, chemical irritants, combustible materials, electrical hazards, noise, moving mechanical parts, odors, blood‑borne pathogens, communicable diseases, and aggressive or disruptive individuals.
  • Occasional operation of vehicles and travel to meetings and assignments.
