Job Title and Reports
  • Job Title: Aide (Braille, Classroom, Intervention, SIT and Special Education)
  • Reports to: Assigned administrator/supervisor
  • Job Objective: Provides support services that help students benefit from the educational program.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Valid state department of education license/permit as determined at the time of appointment.
  • Meets all mandated state/federal criteria (approved degree, required credits or acceptable score on a professional standards test).
  • Behavioral management skills with training/work experience; may require agility, physical strength, and stamina to address needs of students with problem behavior or requiring physical assistance.
  • Complies with drug-free workplace rules, board policies and administrative guidelines.
  • Dependability and flexibility; responds to interruptions and priorities effectively.
  • High ethical standards and personal responsibility for decisions/conduct.
  • Consistent, impartial and resourceful critical-thinking skills.
  • Criminal background appropriate for public school employment.

Note:

Position may require successful completion of communicable disease, child abuse/neglect, CPR and/or first aid training as a condition of employment.

Essential Functions
  • Perform duties that support the effective delivery of program services under minimal supervision.
  • Provide support services including assistance with daily living activities, behavior management, discrete trial training, instructional support, social skills training, task redirection, etc.
Braille
  • Adapt materials using various techniques (recorded texts, tactile graphics, Braille).
  • Provide Braille output with translation software or comparable systems.
  • Operate or assist with specialized equipment (braillers, keyboards, scanners, computers).
  • Perform basic Braille formatting for literacy and Nemeth Code as requested by the teacher.
Classroom
  • Perform non-teaching classroom duties under teacher supervision; support individuals or small groups with remedial or enrichment activities.
  • Assist students with disabilities to participate in appropriate classroom activities.
Intervention
  • Support remedial or enrichment activities and reinforce instructional objectives.
  • Assist with intervention strategies in individualized education plans (IEP).
  • Prepare/distribute materials; set up equipment; keep areas orderly; maintain equipment as directed.
Special Education
  • Provide student support services including daily living assistance, behavior management, DTT, instructional support, social skills training, and task redirection.
  • Support an inclusive environment; assist with behavior management plans as required.
  • Facilitate student mobility and use of assistive/augmentative devices.
  • Assist students with personal care as trained by a health care professional and follow hygiene procedures.
SIT
  • Determine seat assignments, take attendance, ensure students have materials, and answer questions.
  • Authorize student exit and track location of assigned students.
  • Manage access to lockers and rooms and prevent loitering near entrances.
Professional Conduct
  • Maintain professionalism and contribute to a positive district image.
  • Foster respectful relationships with colleagues and work as part of a team.
  • Maintain professional appearance and punctual attendance; protect privacy and confidentiality.
