Position: Teaching Fellow - IDEA Valley View Academy (26-27)

Role Mission

IDEA’s Teaching Fellows serve as High Dosage Tutors, mastering instructional strategies to provide highly effective intervention, remediation, and acceleration to IDEA students. They tutor all students on a Reading Improvement and Monitoring Plan (RIMP), a requirement of Ohio law, until students reach grade‑level reading. Under the guidance of an Assistant Principal of Instruction, they facilitate best practices, develop instructional skills, support RTI/MTSS interventions, and serve as key staff for tutoring.

Compensation

Annual salary: $40,000 paid monthly. Earnings are paid over a 12‑month period, with the first paycheck in August 2026.

Qualifications
  • Education:

    Minimum 48 college hours and current enrollment in a bachelor’s degree teacher‑preparation program highly preferred.
  • Experience:

    1+ year working with children in a classroom or volunteer setting.
  • Commitment:
    Ability to work before and/or after school hours.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Mastery of High Dosage Tutoring Best Practices.
  • Ability to instruct students and manage behavior.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Adaptability to various school situations.
Responsibilities
  • Assist in student development under the guidance of an Assistant Principal, focusing on literacy and numeracy.
  • Maintain student records, including RIMP, RTI/MTSS referrals, and progress monitoring.
  • Implement High Dosage Tutoring Best Practices consistent with Ohio guidance.
  • Participate in lesson practice and deliver tutoring programs such as Direct Instruction, i‑Ready, Zearn, Amplify, and Edmentum.
  • Communicate weekly student progress to students and families.
  • Apply a consistent behavior management system aligned to campus initiatives.
  • Promote a positive, collaborative school culture.
  • Establish trust‑based relationships with students and families.
  • Host tutoring sessions to meet all students’ needs.
  • Participate in weekly manager check‑ins, grade‑level meetings, before/after‑school duties, and school functions.
  • Engage in continuous professional development, including summer and year‑long learning.
  • Commit to a minimum of 40+ hours per week at school, including before/after‑school tutoring.
  • Execute arrival, dismissal, and lunch duties.
  • Additional duties may include after‑school tutoring or Saturday school, based on student needs.
