Job Overview

The Department of Classics in the College of Arts & Sciences invites applications for a one‑year non‑renewable Visiting Assistant Professor position with a specialization in the histories of Greece and Rome. The appointment will begin on August 15, 2026 and involves a 2/2 or 2/3 teaching load. Teaching duties include Greek History, Roman History, and one advanced Civilization course in the Spring (e.g., Athenian Democracy;

History of Medicine; Ancient Warfare, or related topics). A Ph.D. in Classics or a related field is expected by the time of appointment, though advanced Ph.D. candidates will also be considered. Candidates who are not U.S. citizens are eligible if they are already studying or working in the United States.

Essential Functions
  • Teach undergraduate courses in Ancient Greek and Roman History.
  • Teach undergraduate courses in Greek and/or Roman civilization.
Minimum Requirements
  • Doctoral Degree in Classics or a related field, completed or expected within one academic year.
  • In‑depth knowledge in the field of Classics.
  • Experience teaching introductory history or related civilization courses.
Compensation and Benefits
