Adjunct Instructor (In-Person Instruction) – Community English as a Second Language (ESL)

The Instructor of English as a Second Language (ESL) will provide instruction as part of Cincinnati State's free programming for adult English Language Learners. The Community ESL instructor will support all facets of the language-learning environment to provide optimal student access and encourage interaction. They will participate in curriculum development and assist in coordination with community partners and agencies. Classes may be held on Cincinnati State's Clifton campus, or at community partner sites in the College's service area.
EssentialFunctions
- Plan and prepare course materials and lessons based upon department guidelines, learner feedback, and community needs
- Teach ESL to adult learners
- Regularly assess students' English-language learning needs and goals through in-class engagement and dialogue with learners.
- Provide interesting and relevant assignments for students that demonstrate learning outcomes in a real-life setting
- Maintain student attendance and performance records as applicable
- Assist with organization, planning, and logistics at community partner sites
- Inform participants about additional learning opportunities at Cincinnati State
- Other duties as assigned
- Bachelor's Degree
- Teaching or training experience
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Master's degree in Literacy, Second Language Studies, Applied Linguistics, or related field
- Experience teaching ESL to adult learners
- Experience working with students from diverse cultural, linguistic, and academic backgrounds
- Communicative fluency in a non-English language (Spanish and/or French preferred)
- TESOL Certification (within the last 10 years)
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and to distribute relevant course material in a timely manner
- Motivation to participate in Diversity, Equity, and Access initiatives
- Ability to work in a diverse work environment
- Versatile organizational and planning skills
- Flexibility and Creativity
