Position Summary
The Mechatronics Teacher will lead the development, launch, and long-term implementation of a new Career Technical Education pathway in Mechatronics and Advanced Manufacturing. The position will support Cincinnati Public Schools in expanding student access to high-skill, high-wage, in-demand careers in automation, robotics, programmable logic controllers, industrial maintenance, engineering design, and advanced manufacturing technologies.
During the first year, the position will focus primarily on program planning and development with no assigned students. Responsibilities will include curriculum development, lab design, equipment selection and installation, credential alignment, industry partnership development, CTE program approval support, student recruitment, and work-based learning planning. Beginning in the second year, the teacher will provide direct instruction to students and support the continued growth, refinement, and expansion of the Mechatronics pathway in future years.
Overall Purpose
The purpose of this position is to establish and sustain a high-quality Mechatronics pathway that prepares students for industry-recognized credentials, postsecondary education, apprenticeships, paid work-based learning, and employment in advanced manufacturing and engineering-related fields.
Year 1 Responsibilities:
Program Planning and Development
Program Design and Curriculum Development
- Develop a multi-year course sequence aligned to the F8 Mechatronics pathway and Ohio Career Technical Education requirements
- Create or adapt curriculum aligned to Engineering Principles, Digital Electronics, Computer-Aided Drafting and Modeling, Industrial Robotics, Automation Technologies, Industrial Maintenance, and related pathway expectations
- Align instruction to Ohio CTE standards, technical skill attainment expectations, industry-recognized credentials, and regional workforce needs
- Develop project-based learning units connected to robotics, automation, PLCs, sensors, pneumatics, CAD, industrial maintenance, safety, and manufacturing processes
- Prepare course syllabi, pacing guides, assessments, safety procedures, lab protocols, and instructional materials for pathway launch
Lab Development and Equipment Readiness
- Assist with the design and setup of a safe, industry-aligned Mechatronics lab and simulated work environment
- Provide input on equipment, tools, software, technology, safety systems, storage, and instructional supplies needed for program implementation
- Support equipment installation, inventory, organization, testing, and safety readiness prior to student use
- Collaborate with district facilities, purchasing, technology, CTE staff, school leadership, and industry partners to ensure the lab is operational for Year 2 instruction
- Develop safety training systems including PPE expectations, lockout/tagout procedures, equipment use protocols, and lab management routines
Industry Credentials and Program Approval
- Support alignment of pathway coursework to industry-recognized credentials such as OSHA 10 General Industry, MSSC Certified Production Technician, FANUC Robotics Certification, SOLIDWORKS certification, and other approved credentials aligned to the pathway
- Participate in professional development and instructor training needed to deliver pathway credentials and technical instruction
- Support CTE-26 program approval documentation and other ODEW requirements as needed
- Develop credential preparation materials, testing procedures, tracking systems, and student support structures for future implementation
