Job Description Remedial Reading Specialist :
Pleasant Hill Academy

Cincinnati Public Schools is seeking a licensed teacher to provide supplemental literacy instruction and targeted intervention to students at Pleasant Hill Academy. This position will support students in strengthening foundational reading skills through evidence-based instruction aligned with the science of reading
.

The Supplemental Literacy Teacher will work collaboratively with school leadership, classroom teachers, intervention teams, and other instructional staff to identify student needs, provide targeted literacy support, monitor student progress, and strengthen student outcomes in reading.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Provide supplemental literacy instruction and intervention for students needing additional reading support.
  • Deliver instruction grounded in the science of reading and aligned with Ohio academic standards and district instructional expectations.
  • Use student data and progress-monitoring information to identify needs, plan instruction, and adjust interventions.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, school leadership, intervention specialists, and other instructional staff to coordinate student supports.
  • Support implementation of the school's literacy and improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate records of student participation, intervention strategies, and progress.
  • Participate in professional learning, collaborative planning, and other school-based activities related to literacy instruction and student achievement.
  • Perform other related duties consistent with the role and the school's instructional needs.
Required Qualifications

Candidates must:

  • Hold a valid Ohio teaching license appropriate for the assignment.
  • Have completed Ohio Department-approved science of reading professional learning modules
    .
  • Meet at least one of the following additional requirements:
    • Completed LETRS Training 1 and 2;
    • Completed Associate Level Orton-Gillingham Training
      ;
    • Hold a PreK-12 Reading Endorsement (#059902) reflected on the educator's Ohio license;
    • Hold a master's or doctoral degree in reading
      , with "reading" or "literacy" identified in the degree title or transcript as the major area of study, specialization, or concentration; or
    • Have received a passing score on the reading instruction test aligned to Ohio's Reading Competencies
      .
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated success providing targeted literacy intervention to students.
  • Strong knowledge of evidence-based reading instruction and intervention practices.
  • Experience using assessment and progress-monitoring data to differentiate instruction.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, administrators, families, and support staff.
  • Commitment to improving outcomes for students who are not yet meeting grade-level literacy expectations.
