Health And Nutrition Classroom Aide
Position opening announcement for a part-time Health and Nutrition Classroom Aide. Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED and working knowledge of typical behaviors/expectations of three and four-year-old children. Reports to the Head Start Early Learning Director or Designee.
Job summary involves assisting educational staff with education and health needs of children, setting up, serving, and cleaning up meals for Head Start children, and carrying out proper safety and sanitation practices in the handling of food according to Head Start policy and procedures.
Essential functions include adhering to agency policies and procedures, providing set-up, serving, clean-up, and disposing of extra food at the end of each mealtime, receiving food from the caterer or kitchen staff and storing it properly, dishing food into appropriate serving containers, recording number of children eating as required by the Child and Adult Care Food Program, assisting children with tooth brushing procedures, assisting students for preparation to transition in and out of classroom, providing coverage for lunch breaks for the educational staff, supervising and monitoring of children at all times throughout the program environment, assisting children with diapering and toileting procedures/accidents and if necessary, changing clothing, ensuring adult/child ratio is maintained at all times, assisting educational staff in preparing/laminating/cutting materials and preparing the environment for children, supporting a classroom community by promoting positive relationships, independence, and self-regulation skills, supporting learning environment through appropriate and positive interactions with children, staff, and families, striving for efficient data collection by using technology, promoting effective relationships within the community, recognizing and monitoring each child's health and well-being, demonstrating flexible and efficient time management and ability to prioritize workload, collaborating with colleagues to develop cohesive working relationships within the classroom, district, and agency environments, physical ability to respond to children quickly in emergency, assisting in the clean-up of classroom centers and setup of materials between centers, wiping out weekly or clean-up of any spills immediately in the classroom refrigerator, demonstrating respect for others when communicating, facilitating communication with staff and supervisors by using technology if/when available, participating in program planning efforts by contributing ideas for program improvement, material, and supply needs, and suggesting products and sources, following school district procedures, maintaining professional boundaries in relationships with staff and families, furthering professional growth by seeking feedback, reflecting on, and assessing own practice, and taking advantage of opportunities to improve skills and knowledge, and performing other duties as assigned.
