This position supports strategic programs essential to maintaining U.S. Armed Forces’ readiness. The successful Weld Engineer will contribute through supporting multiple project teams in the area of Laser Welding technologies. They will also be a member of a project team, providing technical expertise and guidance in product design and process development. Activities include development of both weld and production processes, and procedures, for mechanical, electronic, and electro-mechanical assemblies.
The Weld Engineer will support production through operator training, process issue resolution, and evaluation of existing operations for opportunities to improve efficiency, first pass yield, and scrap rates. The Weld Engineer will interact with customers, suppliers, and program teams to ensure products meet specified requirements.
- Responsible for the implementation and development of laser-based processes and technology to meet the specified design requirements
- Provide strong mechanical and technical leadership in laser welding technology field
- Proactively maintain industry awareness and opportunities for new weld technologies
- Analyze engineering design documents and develop the methods, processes, tools, jigs, fixtures, required to fabricate the specified product
- Develop and prepare work instructions, control plans, PFMEAs, and process validation plans
- Lead the set-up and validation of new welding equipment and production lines
- Analyze manufacturing production problems and implement corrective actions involving designs, materials, and processes
- Provide technical expertise and support related to manufacturing
- Incorporate new methods and processes to improve existing operations
- Review product designs for manufacturability and completeness
- Train production personnel in new or existing operations
- Interface with equipment vendors and specify equipment through writing Scope of Work documents
