Primary

Responsibilities

HDR is in search of a dynamic, diverse, and talented traffic engineer to join our growing offices. The primary duties include being an integral part of the Traffic and Planning team as a technical resource on a variety of traffic design projects. Design assignments may include preparing signing, pavement marking, signal, lighting, temporary traffic control, and intelligent transportation system (ITS) plans for either stand-alone or multi-disciplinary projects.

As a technical resource, you will perform detail checks and work closely with junior staff and technicians on plan development. In this role, you may also support Project Managers with the development of fee proposals, providing direction to internal project teams, on-time submission delivery to clients, and financial monitoring of projects. Additional assignments may include supporting our regional offices in Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Ohio on similar traffic design projects.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering
  • 8 years’ experience related to traffic design
  • PE, Pennsylvania or Ohio, required
  • Working knowledge of PennDOT, PTC, and ODOT standards, specifications, and plan preparation.
  • Computer skills using SignCAD and ORD
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task while working on several projects at once
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
  • Preference given to local candidates

Required Qualifications

  • Experience with traffic analysis and traffic engineering/design
  • Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example:
    Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
  • Detailed hands on experience conducting traffic design using CAD platforms including Micro Station, Autocad and Guide Sign software
  • Detailed hands on experience conducting operational analysis using a variety of analysis and modeling tools specific to support job duties, including HCS, Synchro, VISSIM, and Aimsun
  • Detailed hands on experience conducting safety analysis using a variety of safety software tools including Highway Safety Software
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Excel, Word
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
