Job Overview
The Metropolitan Sewer District (MSD) of Greater Cincinnati seeks a Safety Professional with a wide variety of experience in construction safety or related fields. The incumbent will manage several OSHA programs and provide safety guidance across engineering and collection operations.

- Hearing Conservation
- Respiratory Protection
- Other safety programs as assigned
- Establish a field presence in Engineering and Collection divisions to provide safety guidance and minimize injuries.
- Support Engineering Division by reviewing and auditing construction site safety plans, performing site visits with inspectors to ensure safe operations.
- Support Collection Division by auditing and improving safe field operations of trenching and excavation crews.
- Develop and deliver training for OSHA programs as well as MSD safety policies.
Knowledge of
- Biology, chemistry, physics as they apply to environmental management and/or health and safety.
- Principles and practices of environmental management and/or health and safety management.
- Research, investigation, and analysis techniques and principles.
- City facilities, equipment, materials, and job functions.
- Statistical principles and methods.
- English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
- Federal, state, and local codes, laws, and regulations pertaining to environmental management and/or health and safety.
- Training processes, techniques, methods, and procedures.
Skill to
- Operate a computer and other standard office equipment in performance of assigned duties.
- Operate monitors and various instruments in performance of job.
- Operate assigned vehicle in performance of job duties.
Ability to
- Inspect complex city facilities, equipment, materials, and employee work practices to determine unsafe conditions or environmental problems.
- Recommend and implement goals, policies, and procedures for effective and efficient environmental or health and safety practice.
- Prepare clear and concise analytical and statistical reports.
- Analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions, and implement recommendations in support of goals.
- Interpret and apply federal, state, and local codes, laws, and regulations.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Respond to requests and inquiries from the general public.
- Work independently in the absence of supervision.
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Recognize hazards and respond with plausible solutions.

RequiredEducation and Experience
- Each applicant must have a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution in Environmental Science, Risk Management, Occupational Safety, or a closely related field.
- Minimum of five years of related work experience.
- A Master's Degree in one of the above fields or professional certification from an accredited professional organization dealing with environmental issues is preferred.
- Must have a valid Driver's License.
- Some assignments may require possession of a valid registration from the Ohio State Board of Sanitation Registration.
- Other licenses and/or certifications may be required, depending on area of responsibility.
Military education and experience may be substituted for college level coursework on a case‑by‑case basis per ACE Military Guide recommendations.
Working and Physical ConditionsTravel from site to site; office/field environment; exposure to computer screens, noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, gases, potentially hazardous chemicals, toxic materials, potentially hostile environments; human or animal body fluids; waste and infectious materials; work at heights on scaffolding and ladders; confined spaces; underground; slippery or uneven surfaces; heavy construction equipment; may be subject to call back and/or overtime work.
Physical conditions require maintaining physical condition necessary for heavy, moderate or light lifting; bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling; walking or standing for prolonged periods.
