Overview
Tetra Tech, a leading environmental and management consulting firm, is seeking a mid-level geologist or environmental scientist to join our team in Cincinnati, Ohio to support environmental projects throughout the Midwest, predominately within Ohio, focusing on brownfield redevelopment programs.
Position SummaryThis position will support a variety of contracts, including federal, state, municipal, and commercial clients. The ideal candidate will have excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills, with experience managing task orders or projects and the ability to work independently and in team settings.
Essential Job FunctionsThe following duties are considered essential to the role. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions:
- Support and manage environmental projects and task orders including Phase I and Phase II assessments; hydrogeological investigations; UST closure and corrective action investigations; and remedial actions.
- Communicate and interact with project clients, vendors, and subcontractors.
- Complete field data collection activities, including soil, groundwater, and soil gas sampling.
- Oversight and management of subcontractors during completion of geophysical surveys; drilling and installation of soil borings, monitoring wells, and soil gas probes; and remedial activities.
- Support proposal and cost estimate development.
- Interpret analytical data using spreadsheets and databases.
- Prepare technical report deliverables, including data evaluation, interpretation, and presentation.
- Mentor and train early career staff.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Geology, Environmental Science, or related field is required.
- 5–10 years of relevant professional experience.
- OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER and 8-Hour refresher certifications.
- Understanding of due diligence and brownfield redevelopment processes.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills (both written and verbal).
- Highly motivated, customer-focused, and able to work well in a team environment.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations and previous experience with completion and/or task order/project management of site investigations and remedial actions.
- Willingness to drive regularly; passing a motor vehicle record background check and maintaining a valid driver’s license in good standing.
- Experience and knowledge of U.S. EPA, Ohio EPA VAP, and/or Ohio BUSTR is preferred but not required.
- Asbestos and/or lead certifications preferred but not required.
- Professional licenses or certifications such as Professional Geologist, Professional Engineer, and/or Ohio VAP Certified Professional are preferred but not required.
- Must be able to walk on project sites in various terrains and carry up to 50 pounds of equipment.
- Must be able to participate in an annual medical monitoring program.
- Role responsibilities may include site visits and field work up to approximately 40%, which could require overnight travel.
- Site work may occur outdoors in all seasons, including peak summer and winter conditions.
Work schedule is Monday through Friday; occasional overnight work may be required. Travel accounts for up to approximately 40% of the time and may include overnight stays.
