Role Description
Full-time, on-site Geotechnical Engineer role based in Cincinnati, OH. The Geotechnical Engineer will plan and oversee subsurface investigations, including coordinating drilling programs, logging soil and rock, and collecting samples for laboratory testing. Daily responsibilities include analyzing geotechnical data, performing engineering calculations, and preparing reports, recommendations, and design memoranda for foundations, earthwork, and related structures. The role involves supporting foundation and earth‑retaining structure design, slope stability evaluations, and ground improvement assessments, as well as collaborating with civil and structural engineers and construction teams.
The Geotechnical Engineer will also conduct site visits, assist with construction observation, and help ensure that geotechnical recommendations are implemented safely and in accordance with project specifications and applicable standards.
- Strong geotechnical engineering skills, including geotechnical engineering and foundation design, with experience applying these to real-world projects.
- Proficiency in site characterization, including site investigation and engineering geology, and the ability to interpret field and laboratory data.
- Solid understanding of soil behavior, including soil mechanics and related testing methods, and the ability to translate findings into practical design recommendations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field;
Master’s degree with a geotechnical focus is preferred. - Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required or ability to obtain in a reasonable timeframe;
Professional Engineer (PE) license or progress toward licensure is a plus. - Experience with geotechnical analysis and design software (slope stability, settlement, bearing capacity, and earth-retaining structure programs).
- Strong technical writing skills for preparing clear, concise geotechnical reports and construction recommendations.
- Ability to perform fieldwork, including travel to project sites, and work collaboratively with multidisciplinary project teams.
- Effective communication, time management, and organizational skills, with a commitment to safety and quality in all project activities.
