Job Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and motivated Health, Safety, & Environmental (HSE) Specialist to join our team at an entry level. This role is vital in ensuring that our operations align with health, safety, and environmental standards and comply with all relevant governmental regulations. Key Responsibilities:
- Promote a strong safety culture through awareness programs and incentives.
- Ensure continuous adherence to HSE standards and all applicable regulations at federal, state, and local levels.
- Accurately prepare and submit all required regulatory reports in a timely manner.
- Develop and implement site-specific HSE standards and initiatives to achieve exceptional performance.
- Manage hazardous and non-hazardous waste in compliance with legal requirements.
- Conduct training sessions and provide coaching on HSE programs to enhance employee engagement.
- Assist in incident investigations using root cause analysis and support the implementation of corrective actions.
- Participate in the emergency response team, prepared to handle HSE emergencies effectively.
- Oversee contractor safety programs to mitigate risks during construction and trade activities.
- Coordinate HSE training, risk reduction efforts, and improvement projects.
- Engage in process hazard analyses (PHAs) and participate in HSE committee meetings.
- Act as a backup for the HSE Manager when necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Associate's, Bachelor's, or Master's degree in Environmental Sciences, HSE, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of HSE regulations (e.g., EPA, OSHA, DOT); experience in the chemical industry is preferred.
- Experience with hazard recognition, behavioral-based safety, and job hazard analysis is advantageous.
- Technical proficiency, including familiarity with computer systems and a willingness to adopt new tools.
- Ability to influence stakeholders effectively without direct authority.
- Flexibility to work varied hours, including occasional nights and weekends, as required.
- Capability to lift up to 50-75 lbs as necessary.
- Routine activities include sitting, walking, standing, and climbing stairs or ladders.
