Civil Engineer; EIT or PE - Land Development

Overview

Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking a Civil Engineer to join our Civil/Site team in Toledo, OH! This position could also be located in Columbus, OH or Cincinnati, OH. The Civil/Site Engineer will be a key member of the Civil/Site design team, working on a variety of residential, commercial, industrial, and mixed‑use land development projects. Responsibilities include site feasibility and conceptual planning, stormwater management, grading, drainage, utility design, erosion and sediment control, and permitting.

As a Civil/Site Engineer, you may also conduct permitting research, due diligence, write specifications and reports. The Civil/Site Engineer will work within AutoCAD Civil 3D and alongside the design team managers and other disciplines to successfully complete projects within established budgets and deadlines.

We engage with our clients as a strategic partner providing complete civil and site consulting and engineering services to both public and private clients. This partnership begins with comprehensive site feasibility evaluations as part of the due diligence process to identify potential pitfalls and implement strategies to overcome them. We have extensive experience in traditional residential development as well as commercial project types including office, retail, financial, educational, restaurant, mixed‑use, healthcare, landfill, energy, industrial, and warehouse.

• Design land development projects using Civil 3D including site, grading, and utilities.
• Review municipal zoning and land development ordinances and applicable agency regulations to determine land development limitations for the property.
• Site investigation and due diligence include the review of ordinances, utility service research, outside agency regulations, and site visits to establish comprehensive development guidelines.
• Preparation of concept drawings based upon client’s development objectives and conclusions of due diligence. Involves preparation of concept plan, including coordination with AutoCAD draftsmen.
• Lead the review and design of stormwater management and stormwater conveyance systems using AutoCAD Civil 3D and hydrology design software.
• Prepare pipe sizing calculations for stormwater conveyance systems, including drainage area maps.
• Compute surface runoff coefficients, invert, slope, velocity and hydraulic grade line using the Rational Method and Manning’s Equation.
• Follow stormwater management design regulations.
• Design grading to ensure value engineering through earthwork analysis and site safety using appropriate design slopes.
• Develop subdivision and site plan design and layout.
• Design utility systems including stormwater conveyance, sanitary sewer service, pump station design, water, gas, and telephone service, resolving vertical and horizontal conflicts.
• Design soil erosion and sediment control including stability calculations, best management practices, swale design, spillway design, and construction sequencing.
• Prepare construction cost estimates based on site plan drawings for bonding and client purposes.
• Potential to take an active leadership role and guide junior staff.
• Work closely with the Infrastructure department to support utility coordination and municipal utility design for complex highway and bridge projects.

• Bachelor’s degree in civil or environmental engineering.
• 4 to 12+ years of related land development (civil/site) experience.
• EIT (Engineer in Training) certification required. PE licensed or working toward licensure preferred.
• Demonstrated Civil 3D skills from concept through completion.
• Experience with Micro Station, Hydro
  
  CAD, Water
  
  CAD, HEC‑HMS/-RAS, Open Roads, and InRoads is a plus.
• Prior experience with business development, project management, client facing, or estimating costs is a plus.
• Proficiency in technical skills in stormwater management, hydraulics, hydrological analysis, grading and other site development related designs.
• Ability to read, write, and understand English for written and verbal communication.
