Duties

  • Assisting employees of higher classifications.
  • Assisting in the verification and correction of wiring diagrams, schematics, and equipment panel layouts to conform to engineering standards.
  • Assisting in ensuring equipment received and ordered conforms to engineering specifications and standards.
  • Acquiring and maintaining competent working knowledge of safety rules, first aid, firefighting, and associated equipment.
  • Assisting in servicing digital fault recorders, oscillographs, changing date/time stamp, installing and removing film, and operating test switches to energize or de‑energize oscillograph elements.
  • Assisting in the proper labeling of relays, transducers, test switches, switchgears, circuit breakers, transformers, and other equipment during installations.
  • Acting as a safety person during high‑voltage testing.
  • Assisting in installing, testing, calibrating, and maintaining weather and environmental monitoring equipment.
  • Assisting in installing, servicing, repairing, and calibrating meters, transducers, satellite communication, and recording instruments for data acquisition for the Energy Management System.
  • Driving company vehicles while performing duties.
  • Maintaining work equipment and areas in a clean, orderly condition; observing safety rules, checking safety equipment, attending safety meetings, and familiarizing with safety manuals and procedures.
  • Pursuing training for advancement to the next higher job within the promotional sequence, including general switching instructions, lockout/tag‑out procedures.
  • Performing other similar or less‑skilled work as assigned or directed.
  • Assisting in calculations involving current, voltage, phase angle, impedance, power factor, and capacitance using vector analysis and other electrical concepts.
  • Assisting in servicing energized equipment, including diagnosing faults of solid‑state or electromechanical voltage regulators and transformers with automatic tap changers.
  • Assisting in conducting overhaul tests on network and underground voltage transformers.
  • Assisting in high‑voltage testing such as hi‑potting and power factor testing where proximity to voltage exceeding 10 kV is required.
  • Assisting in calibration and maintenance of system protective relays and test equipment, including high‑voltage dielectric testing of insulating oils.
  • Assisting in organizing substation and generating station data, databases, drawings, wire lists, relay cards, and historical records of test instruments and protection devices.
  • Assisting in acceptance tests on new or used substation and generation plant protective devices.
  • Assisting in installing, maintaining, and repairing supervisory control, data acquisition, energy management, load control, and remote alarming equipment, including master and remote terminal units and associated transducers.
  • Assisting in servicing and repairing computers, relays, electronic subassemblies, and test equipment by checking and replacing faulty integrated circuits, semiconductors, capacitors, resistors, transformers, and other components.
  • Assisting in installing, inspecting, adjusting, maintaining, and testing line traps, tuning units, carrier and protective transfer trip equipment.
  • Assisting in installing, inspecting, testing, repairing, cleaning, calibrating, adjusting, and maintaining electronic devices for other departments (radio, video monitors, intercoms, power supplies, UPS, converters, smoke and fire detectors, microprocessors, peripherals, keyboards, emergency generators).
  • Assisting in installing, servicing, testing, calibrating, and repairing electronic circuits, metering devices, recording equipment, data link equipment, and other devices for the Energy Management System.
  • Assisting in installing, testing, and repairing leased line, fiber‑optic, microwave, satellite radio, and cellular communication systems used for supervisory control, telemetry, and system protection schemes.
Qualifications
  • Associate degree in electrical or electronic engineering technology.
  • Working knowledge of computers and related software applications.
  • Working knowledge of electric theory to perform moderate‑complexity calculations.
