Mechanical Engineer, HVAC Tech / Heating Engineer
Comfort Systems USA Ohio is growing our Cincinnati team, and we’re looking for a knowledgeable, practical, and customer-focused professional to join us as a Mechanical Engineer – HVAC & Hydronics.
This role will support the Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky, and surrounding metro area and serve as a key mechanical/HVAC technical resource for construction projects, retrofit opportunities, design-build solutions, and customer system improvement strategies.
This role is ideal for someone with experience in:
- Mechanical engineering
- Commercial HVAC systems
- Hydronic systems (chilled water, hot water, steam)
- Mechanical construction, retrofit, and design-build projects
- Mechanical system troubleshooting and improvement
- Engineering support for field and project teams
- MEP or mechanical contracting environments
As the Mechanical Engineer – HVAC & Hydronics, you will partner closely with Sales, Project Managers, Foremen, Supervisors, Estimators, and field teams to evaluate customer needs, assess existing HVAC and hydronic systems, and develop practical engineered solutions.
This is more than a traditional engineering role. You’ll help customers understand how their current mechanical systems can be improved by providing technical guidance and recommendations related to:
- HVAC and hydronic systems
- System upgrades and replacements
- Design-build solutions
- Energy efficiency and performance improvements
- Long-term building reliability
What You’ll Do
- Serve as a primary mechanical/HVAC engineering resource for the Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky market
- Provide technical guidance across HVAC and hydronic systems, including chilled water, hot water, steam, boilers, pumps, cooling towers, piping, and ventilation
- Support construction, retrofit, replacement, design-build, and system improvement projects
- Evaluate customer requirements, drawings, and existing system conditions to develop practical engineered solutions
- Prepare and review system layouts, equipment selections, scopes of work, and project documentation
- Partner with Sales and estimating teams to support customer solutions, proposals, and budget guidance
- Collaborate with Project Managers and field leadership from concept through construction, startup, and closeout
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
- Strong knowledge of commercial and industrial HVAC and hydronic systems, including chilled water, hot water, steam, and related equipment
- Experience supporting mechanical construction, retrofit, design-build, or system improvement projects
- Ability to assess existing systems and develop practical, cost-effective solutions
- Working knowledge of load calculations, equipment selection, system design, and applicable codes and standards
- Strong communication, customer-facing, and problem-solving skills with a practical, field-aware approach
- Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, Carrier HAP, Trace 3D Plus, or similar tools preferred
