Job Summary

Location:

St. Bernard, OH

The person holding this position will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of all utility plant equipment and assist with maintenance tasks as assigned.

Key Accountabilities
  • Perform all station shift operation and maintenance, including startup and shutdown of main plant components and auxiliaries
  • Perform operations in accordance with established SOPs and job safety standards
  • Respond to abnormalities and take corrective actions consistent with established operating procedures and good engineering practice
  • Conduct routine tours of the plant to inspect equipment and provide feedback to other employees
  • Comply with all site safety requirements and procedures; identify safety hazards and take corrective actions as necessary
  • Maintain accuracy of shift operating logs, records, time sheets, work orders, and other administrative documents related to the power plant
  • Perform routine cycle chemistry testing and make necessary adjustments to optimize efficiency; check daily consumption rates of chemicals, gases, fuels, water, and other consumables; monitor inventories and initiate action to replenish when appropriate
  • Perform plant switching and tagging of equipment in accordance with approved procedures and prudent operations and maintenance practices
  • Perform electrical and mechanical inspections, troubleshooting, and maintenance tasks under direction of Management when assigned
  • Investigate plant problems, incidents, accidents, and unusual events, and provide analyses, recommendations, reports, and appropriate follow‑up plans
  • Read and record gauges and meters; perform routine operational tests and adjustments on all power plant systems and components as required
  • Develop, assist, and revise operations and maintenance related procedures
  • Perform and maintain housekeeping standards and duties
  • Perform routine preventive and predictive maintenance on all systems and equipment; support corrective maintenance efforts on selected equipment when properly trained or supervised
  • Become lead system representative on assigned systems
  • Perform other duties necessary to fulfill plant requirements
  • Communicate with other company personnel on‑site and at other locations; represent the company in dealing with the public, steam and power customers, vendors, contractors, regulators, and other non‑company personnel
  • Assist other team members and work with all departments to support the operation in achieving its goals
  • Willingness to work scheduled and unscheduled overtime and respond to off‑hour call‑ins when contacted
Qualifications
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • A minimum of four years of relevant work experience is required.
  • A minimum of a State of Ohio 3rd Class Stationary Engineer license is required.
  • Knowledge of utility and power plant mechanical and electrical equipment, including chillers, motors, pumps, fluid systems, chemical handling, wastewater treatment systems, centrifugal air compressors, AC and DC electrical distribution and control systems, and associated maintenance functions.
