Interns/Co-ops/Externs for the City of Cincinnati may be performing duties in any potential field within the City's structure. These fields may include office-level work/assignments, fieldwork, and/or civic services. The nature of the work will be based on areas of interest, degree programs, or organizational needs. Minimum Qualifications (KSAs) MSD DIVISION OF COMPLIANCE SERVICES - ENVIRONMENTAL/CONSENT DECREE Mission:
To attract and cultivate bright and energetic college students and maintain ongoing partnerships with colleges and universities. It is our goal to expose these students to applied principles as well as career opportunities in water resource management and environmental sciences. The Co-op program also serves as a recruitment tool to assist the Compliance Services Division (CSD) in hiring full-time personnel.

Purpose:

Co-ops will provide assistance to Health, Safety, Sustainability, & Environmental (HSSE) Branch engineers and scientists on a variety of projects. Projects range from environmental compliance support, discharge assessment and overflow reporting, facility inspections, recordkeeping, etc. Overview:
This position will be a part of the Environmental Section within MSD's Compliance Services Division (CSD). The student co-op will be assigned to support one or more of the Environmental Program Managers/subject matter experts (SME's) that manage the following program(s):
* Air quality & permit compliance (Title V/Permit-by-Rules);
* Water Quality and Discharge Assessment (NPDES Permits, Stormwater/SWPPPs, Bioassessments, overflow reporting, etc.)
* Spill prevention control and countermeasures (SPCC) Compliance
* Due Diligence and site remediation
* RCRA Waste Management (Hazardous, Non-hazardous, Universal wastes)
* Pollution prevention; and
* Energy efficiency The student co-op will assist the Program Manager in developing, maintaining, and implementing MSD's compliance programs in accordance with regulatory requirements and generally accepted standards of good practice. Learning Expectations and Deliverables:
The Co-op will learn various components of environmental compliance, which may include:
* Air Permitting (Title V & Permit-by-Rule)
* Water Quality & NPDES Compliance
* Oil Pollution Prevention and Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) Rule Requirements
* Chemical Inventory Reporting (Tier II)
* Stormwater Pollution Prevention
* Environmental Compliance Auditing/Inspections
* Sustainability
* Public Speaking
* Database management
* Sampling methods Deliverables:
* Each student will be assigned to a work closely in support of environmental staff that serve the other MSD Divisions.
* In addition to their primary project, students will be expected to perform other related tasks and help in other areas as needed.
* The CSD environmental team attempts to expose students to all facets of regulatory compliance program management during the term Budget:
* Salary of student; student is tentatively scheduled to work from May to August

* Student will be in the MSD Administration Building,1st floor. Training:
* The student will be trained on the proper use of PPE throughout the treatment operational areas and is expected to have basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications. Deliverables:

Orientation (week #1) Needs Assessment (week #2) Begin Project Work (weeks #1 - #3) Project Manager and co-op will work together to develop a working document that defines projects and timelines that ensures that project goals and objectives will be achieved. The projects will be tailored to suit the student's interests as available. Continuation of Project Work (weeks #4 - #14) Investigate solutions, gather information from various sources, and work as necessary to complete project deliverables as well as possible additional ideas on project solutions.
