Overview
Stantec is a respected environmental consulting firm based in the United States, specializing in transmission, wind, solar and battery energy projects. The Environmental Services practice seeks a Project Manager to deliver project management, regulatory and permitting services for electric transmission and renewable energy clients primarily in the Upper Midwest.
YourKey Responsibilities
The main focus is to manage electric transmission projects through routing, siting and permitting, collaborating with a team of subject‑matter experts. The role may also support renewable energy projects such as wind, solar, battery and biogas. Technical expertise in routing, regulatory requirements, environmental science, data management and reporting is essential.
Project Management Responsibilities- Marketing and business development
- Developing project proposals
- Managing projects, schedules, staffing and budgets
- Coordinating with clients, stakeholders and internal project staff
- Representing clients at public hearings and regulatory agency meetings
- Performing, overseeing and QC of technical work
- Identify project‑specific environmental constraints, engineering design and regulatory requirements
- Co‑ordinate with agency personnel for consultations, data reviews and pre‑permit meetings
- Write and review technical reports supporting desktop assessments, field surveys and other studies
- Prepare environmental permit applications
- Present at public meetings, hearings, open houses and conferences
- Facilitate successful permitting of multiple and varied projects
- Coordinate, conduct or lead field work as needed
- Experience managing electric transmission and renewable energy projects
- Experience guiding clients on routing and siting of electric transmission lines
- Experience with USFWS Wind Energy Guidelines tiered protocols
- Working knowledge of environmental sciences, biology, wildlife, wetlands, land use, environmental justice and cultural resources
- Permitting experience for Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa, Michigan public utilities commissions and related agencies
- Federal permitting experience with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, USFWS field offices, and NEPA review experience
- State permitting experience with Departments of Natural Resources, Agriculture, State Historic Preservation, Health, Pollution Control, etc.
- Local permitting experience for Conditional/Special Use Permits, Highway Departments, Zoning Boards, Floodplain, Emergency Management, etc.
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 15% for agency meetings, hearings, site visits and conferences
- Strong work ethic, high ethical standards and desire for team success
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including technical writing
- Bachelor’s degree in natural or environmental sciences; master’s preferred
- Minimum 8–10 years of progressively responsible experience in electric transmission project management, environmental compliance and permitting
- Project and task management experience is required
- Pay Range – $85,300.00–$ annually (locations: MN, OH, VT, CA, NY)
